Landsberger Reruns 2013 Draft
Landsberger Reruns the 2013 Draft
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/2 ... c1b8d5de04
He does not rerun the 2012 mini draft that removed two players from the 2013 cohort.
1. Jack Martin (Gold Coast)
2. Jesse Hogan (Melbourne)
His order is (with selecting team and pick number)
1. Marcus Bontempelli (Western Bulldogs 4)
2. Josh Kelly (GWS 2)
3. Zach Merrett (Essendon 26)
4. Patrick Cripps (Carlton 13)
5. Jayden Hunt (Melbourne 57)
6. Orazio Fantasia (Essendon 55)
7. Matt Crouch (Adelaide 23)
8. Tom Boyd (GWS 1)
9. Rory Lobb (GWS 29)
10. Ben Brown (North Melbourne 47)
11. Jack Billings (St Kilda 3)
12. Zak Jones (Sydney 15)
13. Jarman Impey (Port Adelaide 21)
14. Toby Nankervis (Sydney 35)
15. Cameron McCarthy (GWS 14)
I think Jack Billings is set to climb, he may well be a genuine No 3 by this time next year.
No sign of Luke Dunstan (St Kilda 18) & Blake Acres (St Kilda 19)
But interestingly no sign of picks 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, & 12
Obviously after just 4 picks it becomes hard for recruiters to pick quality despite there being a heap of quality in this draft.
Essendon did extremely well given they lost their first round pick for being a bunch of cheats.
Obviously they are still cheating but undetected.

So the player at the top is in a team with a brilliant system so strong it goes on to win a flag. This is all pointless, masturbatory crap. It's how teams play as a system that makes players look so great.

Rank them where you will, but the Dons did very well in 2013.
F/S in Daniher from 2012.
Drug Cheat Effects set them up well in 2015 and 2016 by finishing artificially low.
Dons have managed to set themselves up with a core of very good young players.

Re: Landsberger Reruns 2013 Draft
I would've had Jack Billings and Ben Brown at 5 & 6
And I reckon Blake Acres should be in the lower part of that list.

Billings and Acres both starting to hit their straps... Both could yet move into the top 10 from the draft and Billings is really starting to look good

2014 was one of the worst drafts ever - down there with 2002.
Why is it that the super drafts get followed by a cr@p year.

Matt Crouch! Give me a break. Goes to show that Landsberger knows jack. The guy is always injured. I know more than this donkey.

Pick 4 is actually pretty handy...
But that is still 8 recruiters in a row that got it wrong.

Re: Landsberger Reruns 2013 Draft
Pretty good effort.
Wow, add Hogan and Martin (Hogan 2 and Martin 4 IMO) and this really is a super draft in the making.
It is always speculative but I think Cripps is a bit high as is Crouch and I really like Hunt but 5 is high.
If Billings keeps his current form he will move into the top 5 of that list.
Gee Essendon recruited brilliantly in that draft given the picks they had, Merrett is already a gun and Fantasia has a lot of X factor and is rightly marginally in front of Billings right now.
Had their list not been suspended these two probably would not have got the exposure they did last year.
Backs up the theory of getting games into youth.

Re: Landsberger Reruns 2013 Draft
That's the AFL draft. My impression (I haven't done the maths) is that fewer than one out of every two players taken in the first round of the draft ends up truly making it.
On that basis, criticising the recruiters of any club on the grounds that "their pick 4 turned out a lot better than our pick 3" is desperately unfair. If Bontempelli had had a bad run with injuries, or gone off the rails in his personal life, we'd have never heard of him.
The way I look at it - and I suspect most clubs look at it - is to look at what we got out of the draft as a whole, regardless of which picks we had and which ones we used to pick which player. Fact is, we got Billings, Acres and Dunstan with our 3 top 20 picks in 2013. And, disregarding what some of you might think about Dunstan (and, indeed, about Billings until quite recently), all three have developed into pretty regular first team players. That's a good result: well done recruiters!

What it shows is that it was a real quality draft.
In fact the No.1 may turn out to be the lesser of the bunch.

Re: Landsberger Reruns 2013 Draft
Without knowing the criteria used to rank the players, it's hard to comment accurately.
But under any criteria, Boyd at number 8 instead of number 80 is a joke.
Who ties up $1 million a year of their salary cap, and for seven years... for a failed forward cum mediocre ruckman...?
(And pluh-leese, don't bring up that grand final. The most over-hyped eight possessions in football history!
Yes, he happened to be in the right spot at the right time to pick up the loose ball. So well done.
But, in a fiercely contested GF, Boyd should have been the one creating those loose balls. Number of tackles laid by the big fella? Donuts.
And with both sides ending up kicking it long to small forwards... in a GF(!)... what did the Poodles just $7 mil to again...?
And why did they then see the need to recruit Tragic Joke...? )
Hard decision/s looming for our recruiters. Which of the Poodle's young guns do we poach... whilst they're busy paying that dud Boyd...?

However, despite the AFL and media hubris, the Poodles brought a flag despite million dollar baby's eight possessions game.

If we end up getting Kelly that would mean we would have 5 of the top 19 picks from one of the strongest drafts ever.

Re: Landsberger Reruns 2013 Draft
Landsberger had Ben Brown at 10 and Billings at 13
On last nights game I would take Billings without hesitation ahead of Brown.
Cheese versus chalk.
On last night I would also take Dunstan and Acres ahead of Ben Brown.
But then I thought what would I do if offered a straight swap of Ben Brown from the 2013 draft for Paddy McCartin from the 2014 draft.
Maybe not on last night performance but on the season so far no hesitation.
