As I said about Caro, I can't relate to what Fitzsimmons is saying in the absence of any evidence. What did our players say that was so bad? To what extent was it a regular sort of sledge [my mate is having your wife/mother is a sledge as old as competitive sport] or something more targeted and offensive?

Without these crucial pieces of information, I can't feel outraged about the incident and struggle to see why I should.

Honestly, a WEEK of "outrage" from media hacks like Peter Fitzsimmons, over SLEDGING? It's a part and parcel of not only Australian sport, but of Australian society as a whole. Actually, it's part and parcel of human nature, whether we like it or not. We don't need a "code of conduct" for sledging in the AFL, if we can't stop personal sledging in society. I don't personally subscribe to the view that sledging is a desirable part of sport ( in an ideal world ) and feel that our football should do the talking. However I'm not naive enough to believe that you can "legislate" bad sportsmanship away. Fitzsimmons, with HIS background should realise that.
