Re: Saints v Swans match thread
What is Mav actually meant to provide?
He seems too slow to be a midfielder.
Average kicking.
Doesn't really get too many rundown tackles.
Seems like he flares his nostrils and beats his chest, but doesn't actually do a lot?

Can't argue with that either. Unfortunate that Newnes went down and not someone like Montagna that always treads water. But of course could never happen, as Montagna would never put himself in that situation. Swans are full of tough courageous players, we don't and today they came switched on. Could see it early and we had no answer. Doggies last night had a go against a desperate Geelong. We shirked it today bigtime because our soft players are on full show against this hardnut team.jonesy wrote:Spot onThe Recruit wrote:Longer is garbage

No
He'll say the coaches and players were hurting, and will train hard next week and turn it around...
Blah blah...
We were too slow, and not up to it

Thought we'd win this as a response to the unfair publicity.
Started worrying when Paddy was brought in and Dunstan retained. Also thought Savage should have been promoted for his experience.
Game lost at the selection table, like a lot of Richardson's losses.

If we can't kick then teams will overrun us like they do to the Bulldogs.
I speculate that the players are flat after a week of negative stuff in the media. Maybe our club should have taken a defiant stand and been more supportive of the players.
Our CEO on SEN this morning said he shakes his head at Carlisle; who has been fantastic for us all year. Shame on us.

Bring on 2018...draft picks and who will we buy ?? May as well play McCartin for the rest of the season, it will certainly give us an idea where he is going. this game really shows us the gap , Robbo can try diff stuff now.
feel sorry for Roo.

Re: Saints v Swans match thread
Hopefully they learnt something from watching the swans, that was certainly all they did. Probably because they didn't have the pace to get near them. Same could happen next week as the dogs will runs us ragged. A lot of posters getting excited about the Hawks first pick ours is likely to be earlier. I realise this post will probably be written off as an over reaction but having followed the Saints for fifty years I know when not to get over enthusiastic

it takes a game like that to know where you are and I think we are lucky to be in the 8

That's right. If we were to lose it should have been how the Doggies lost last night or thereabouts. Today's loss was embarrassing, no excuses and exposed a team that is still miles off the best in the comp. The Fireman wrote:Fickle ? loldesertsaint wrote:gee this forum. overrates us vastly after a win; tosses the season in the bin after a loss.

Re: Saints v Swans match thread
but that's where we are, a fringe top 8 team. never more going into the season never more during. this place is going mad over a poor game against rhe reigning mp, who have their season back on track. after three good wins this place was talking us up as contenders. not sure why? surely it didn't take this game to realise where we are?The Fireman wrote:Fickle ? loldesertsaint wrote:gee this forum. overrates us vastly after a win; tosses the season in the bin after a loss.

North have been a fringe top 8 team for a while now. That's not what this club's plan is with this group of players but I can't see where the next step will come from when you know the opposition are going to throw everything at you today and they play like that.desertsaint wrote:but that's where we are, a fringe top 8 team. never more going into the season never more during. this place is going mad over a poor game against rhe reigning mp, who have their season back on track. after three good wins this place was talking us up as contenders. not sure why? surely it didn't take this game to realise where we are?The Fireman wrote:Fickle ? loldesertsaint wrote:gee this forum. overrates us vastly after a win; tosses the season in the bin after a loss.

Maverick's problem as we all know is that he cannot play as a mid at all so he is very one dimensional.Con Gorozidis wrote:Lots of huffnpuff and brings some beef cake for the ladies. Kicks the odd long goal.The_President wrote:What is Mav actually meant to provide?

Unfortunately in the role he is is assigned to, he appears badly out of form.
He might be injured but regardless, he should be dropped this week. Michington would be a much better bet

MATCH REPORT: One cannot be competitive when your opponent is playing well if you continually kick and handball to them. This happened throughout the 4 quarters.

Re: Saints v Swans match thread
Problem is we are not stacking our team with players with great disposal. Thats not really the philosophy guiding the team. Hopefully we can keep getting the class ball use in with guys like Rice and White. Sinclair can provide that but he's done the thing he's done his career so far which is have one good game then go pretty quiet in the next few. Needs to learn how to get the ball regularly as he is the sort of creative and neat player we want the ball in the hands of. But Richo stacked the midfield with other players which made it hard for Sincs. Get Rice in next week - that cat can kick a footy.saintsRrising wrote:MATCH REPORT: One cannot be competitive when your opponent is playing well if you continually kick and handball to them. Re: Saints v Swans match thread
The players were flat. The Murphy negativity in the media really took the wind out of their sales.
Coaches and players really hurting. Richo furious with some of the skills end effort.
Sydney are a great side. Probably the best side of all time.
Dont worry we will bounce back hard next week.
(I am just getting in early and saving tony74 the time).

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?
