Our Response To Murphygate
I'm not talking about the Club, I'm talking about us the supporters.
We have a home game this week, we need to get to the game and show our support for the team and our new boy Jake Carlisle. Let's hear a roar everytime Jake touches the footy and send a big f**k you to Caro, Barrett etc etc.

Under the new 'guidelines' discussed this week, would that not be considered bullying, and going outside the bounds of acceptable sledging?Linton Lodger wrote: ......... send a big f**k you to Caro, Barrett etc etc.

Re: Our Response To Murphygate
Fairdinkum... lots of "holier-than-thou" people in the media coming out of the woodwork over this one.
Clearly none of them played footy over the last 50 or more years and listened to the sledging going on which was about the same standard- or worse than precious petal Murphy's ears beheld the other day..either that or some of them played with earplugs in! Give me a break..
Go Saints..that's all we need to say..just holler GO SAINTS

Re: Our Response To Murphygate
Mmmm, I suppose cheering Jake could be construed as disagreeing with the views of journalists (including Caro's forceful views) and that champion of feminism, Wayne Carey.Sainter_Dad wrote:Under the new 'guidelines' discussed this week, would that not be considered bullying, and going outside the bounds of acceptable sledging?Linton Lodger wrote: ......... send a big f**k you to Caro, Barrett etc etc.
In a Western democracy there are some views, as determined by social media (you know the Twitter or Facebook mob), that you must not debate.

I can imagine the fans cheering wildly every time Jake gets to the ball, takes a mark, etc

Re: Our Response To Murphygate
HTF can Gary Lyon criticise so forcefully the sledging of Murphy after what he did - I wonder what Billy thinks listening to him. Talk about hypocrisy - I shudder every time he's outspoken and he getting back to the control freak he was before - Rsole like him should not be allowed to control anything.
No way should he be allowed to disparage anyone for anything after he chose to go down that forbidden road.

Have you read what Peter Fitzsimmons has written?
Just terrible and full of mistakes.

Are you surprised? Pirate Pete must have his bandana on too tight. At least it hides the circumcision scar.

ummm....his bandana makes him look like a fancy dress pirate and his head looks like a dick, there's no visible foreskin so the circumcism scar must be hidden under his bandana.
Well that's what I took it to mean.

Re: Our Response To Murphygate
Weak response... why has the sledging and support of Jake Carlisle whilst lying injured been glossed over?!

With this one, I think we just wear it and move on. Fight the battles we can win and fighting this one will just prolong our pain. We have games of footy to win and a finals campaign to plan for.

Re: Our Response To Murphygate
Just read the Fitzsimmons article. As always, opinionated and partisan to a fault. But hey, it gets a reaction, and THAT keeps him and his opinion pieces "relevant"(?) We've been here before, will be here again, we just move on.

I'm moving on from all this with only one decision to make. For future reference should we refer to Murph as the dobber, the spitter, the sook ... or all three.

Re: Our Response To Murphygate
I normally enjoy his articles. This was obviously a bloke who had heard things second hand though. And the whole premise of the article was plain wrong - ie, show me a team of good blokes and I'll show you a team of winners.SaintJohn1956 wrote:Have you read what Peter Fitzsimmons has written?
Just terrible and full of mistakes.
History is littered with sporting rogues who dominated the footy field. WC is 05/06. Kangaroos in mid/late 90's. Lions in early 2000's. Teams who were mean, physically and verbally or full of knobs (WC era)
Not saying for a sec that I want the Saints to be a team of knobs, but the point he's making is invalid and poorly made.

Re: Our Response To Murphygate
Couldn't agree more Moods. I've always found Fitzsimmons to put forward views that, while I may not always agree with, are for the most part, written in a calm, reasoned and OBJECTIVE manner. The Age article drips with acid directed, not toward any "guilty parties" involved in sledging, but toward the whole team, and the club. I for one, am attempting to move on from this issue, however, when I see such sanctimonious cant, spewing out of someone, who for his sporting career, involved himself in a sledging culture ( since when were Rugby Union players and officials paid up feminists? ) even if not directly doing it himself, it makes my blood BOIL! Go Saints! (To hell with the rest!)
