We're a chance simply through the lack of any great teams this year.

To win it this year we'd probably need a few things to go our way - a good run with injuries, hit September in form and have the finals draw fall our way. In our favour, there doesn't seem to be a stand out side.
Personally I still think we're a couple of A grade mids short. Give us Fyfe and Kelly next year and we'll be as good a chance as anyone.
Get excited Saints!

Its one of the questions I asked Richo the other day when I bumped into him. His reply was most definitely, well what else would he say, but there was an air of his confidence in the team. I have no doubts he doesn't think were a chance and if all the cards fall our way, why not.

I also asked who he thought was our best young bloke on our list. His opinion was Gresham, but he did mention Paddy, both of whom he said needs to get their fitness levels up, Finnis likes Membrey with Ross being his favorite.

So I'd expect Paddy will be back once he can accomplish the required fitness level.

Our win against Carlton was ugly, but then that may of been a game we'd of lost not so long ago.

Perhaps we'll be due for some luck in finals, if not 2018 will be exciting

Never say never. On our day we can beat anyone. This year is as good as any.

This is exactly right. Did anyone give the dogs a chance this time last year?

Hardly.

Carlton aren't that bad.

25 scoring shots to 16.

Won by 3 goals which is a perfect win.

Better than a 10 goal win which can be misleading and result in complacency.

We're winning and that is what counts.

Aussie Jones said in the SC that he thinjs we're in the window now.

Not sure I agree but it is a very even competition.

Definitely a chance. I think we will only get better as the season goes on and we have the depth to cover most injuries except key position defenders. No team will think they can beat us without a hell of a struggle.

We"re as good a chance as nearly anyone else at this stage.

A lot of things would need to go right, though, beginning with beating last year's Grand Finalist this week.

I don't get this constant demand that we get more midfielders. With Koby in and Dunstan out, our midfield beat GWS's. And there must still be a chance of Armo firing again.

What we lack is forwards who can kick bags of goals. I reckon our backline and midfield are nearly good enough to win a premiership, but Membrey and Bruce, plus Riewoldt, don't do it for me. And I reckon McCartin is a 2018-2019 prospect.

It's been a perennial problem at the club post-Lockett. Heatley was a short term fix in the 1990s and Gehrig a longer-term fix in the 2000s. We'd have won at least one premiership (2009) with a decent FF.

Can McCartin be it? Maybe.

Not until they saw the impact the silly bye has. Changed the face of finals forever IMO.

McCartin kicked four for Sandy yesterday and dominated apparently. Nine shots at goal I think I read. He kicked seven a couple of weeks back.

Is he ready for a recall? It's hard to say as we don't know what he's been told to work on. Endurance? Aggression? Straighter kicking?

Personally I'd play him this week at ff along with Bruce (chf) and Membrey (flank/pocket). That would mean Rooey plays wing and I'm not sure he has the mobility to do that in his current state. The knee is clearly giving him grief.

3 goals 1 behind = 19 points is not just falling over the line

Our one point win in 1966 was just falling over the line, however, who cares.

A win is a win is a win.

I hope you told him 2018 may be a bit late for you and they need to get cracking and do the job in 2017 as well!

I'm in the "Blue Skiers" Coterie group now, Jiggster. As the WBs said last year, "Why not?" It 's so even, anything could happen. Need some luck, but surely we're due for that.

Could have gotten Fevola ( Saints Supporter as a kid) for nothing at one stage when Carlton put him him on the market but not 1 club was interested.
Kicked bags of goals after 2004, I always said he would have been brilliant for us in that period before he went off the rails.

This is shaping to be a bizarre footy season. No doubt about that. It seems like anyone can beat anyone on the day and have.

So many unexpected results.

Can we go all the way? Potentially yes IMO.

Our results so far have been encouraging. That gives me a lot of hope and optimism. Even the losses, apart from the first game, had some upside.

For example, at times we dominated West Coast and Geelong but in the end we couldn't get it done.

This week against the Swanees will be a real test. Probably our biggest to date. Our record against them is appalling. We've played six and lost every game. Some of them by huge margins.

Sydney's midfield was back to its best in giving the Roos a touch up.

If we can beat Sydney we are definitely contenders. Fingers crossed no injuries.

I might not have said or thought this in the past, but I do now also believe we are in with a genuine chance of taking down the Swans. But we have to rush Koby back into the team.

We are really going to need him and Steele and Dunstan against Kennedy, Hannebury and Parker.

I think Darren Minchington will be playing for the Zebras.
