It was good to see Hugh out there on Saturday.
Needs to find fitness for the rest of the season.
2018 will make or break Hugh. How old is Brown???
Hopefully Hugh spends the next twelve months getting a football tank and learning his trade from Brown.
So he can take over from brown next year.
Not bagging Brown he has been great.
Just looking after our future

Brown = 28...plenty of time to transition. Browny has been magnificent.

Nathan Brown has been super for us this season. Every reason to believe that ( fitness permitting) he, JC, & Dylan Roberton can provide the solid defensive foundations necessary for a tilt at the Flag! Hugh Goddard has plenty of time to get himself in good shape, and will, I'm sure have a big role to play in our future.

Where is Roberton.
He's mopping up wild kicks into our D50 when they try to get over our Trump Wall.
And kicking goals on his left just to show off a bit too

Tend to agree - Hugh was slow before his Achilles injury. Let's hope he can generate a bit of pace and agility in the next pre-season. I still have high hopes that Hugh will develop into a good AFL player.

True but different body's. HG is a big boy, can't see him getting up to the required pace

Coming back from an Achilles rupture. Has worked his arse off to get back earlier than expected. That's a good indicator that he's willing to work hard to address issues. He's never going to be Usain Bolt. We knew that when we drafted him. It was why he went from being touted as a top 5 pick, to sliding to us at pick 21. On raw ability and talent, that should prove to be the biggest steal of his draft. His talents lie in judgement, strong hands and a tremendous ability to read the play. He still has time to become quicker and improve his tank, al a Seb Ross. Fortunately, for the positions he plays, pace is not the greatest need. You can overcome a lack of leg speed with judgement, good awareness and decision making. Just ask Greg Williams and Sam Mitchell.

Precisely! I have full confidence he'll be easing his way up to senior selection in good time and he'll slot very nicely into that backline.

Key backs need to be quick over the first 20, cause key forwards are, jury still out on Hughie, but, thanks to recruiting Brown and Jake, he has time!!!!!

Touted as a possible no 1 at one point the year before.

Do you watch Forged in Fire - I always hear this comment as "this blade will cut" as read by Doug Marcaida

Agree with this. Carlisle isn't quick either. Goddard just needs to learn to take good contested marks, float in front of packs etc. Skills and composure etc is what a good Key back require. Brown isn't quick either. They're not all like Max Hudghton - my favourite Saints defender ever.. :D

Problem with Goddard is Carlisle

Goddard is not a deep defender and more an intercept marker. He is too slow off the mark to play full back and prefers to play 'off' his man as a defender and read the play ala Sam Fisher.

Carlisle is a better athlete and footballer as a chb

Hugh may well end up a back up for either Bruce or Carlisle

How tall is Goddard?
With the way the game is going, if he can jump, he might end up being our next ruckman.
