Re: Hickey goes off injured
UPDATE: Club Doc has ruled him out for remainder of game.
Commentators believe it to be some form of a knee injury.

And this is why we need to keep both Longer and Hicks. s*** happens and you need coverage.saintsRrising wrote:UPDATE: Club Doc has ruled him out for remainder of game.

Re: Hickey goes off injured
Spot on Bluthy - A football team needs two ruckmen. Billy would have been playing next week anyway, he was sensational last night, but now that Hickey is injured for a week at least, we now need Longer to be out there available to play, no matter what his form line was like.Bluthy wrote:And this is why we need to keep both Longer and Hicks. s*** happens and you need coverage.saintsRrising wrote:UPDATE: Club Doc has ruled him out for remainder of game.

Holmes is okay for an emergency backup, he's a good clubman, and Pierce is still developing, but at the moment it is Longer and Hickey as our rucks, and there may be games which require two ruckmen in the same side anyway.

Watching on Tv so don't know except to say that he put his hand up straight away after doing the injury, and he hobbled off the field in pain with the assistance of trainers in the first quarter and taken straight to the rooms.Goose is king wrote:Severity?
Commentators didn't know if it was an ankle or knee injury.
Ruled out for the rest of the game.

Also the fact that both are very good players with different strengths.

Re: Hickey goes off injured
With Hickey getting hurt, Longer gets the chance to own the ruck role.
I don't care who our ruckman is, as long as he can win his share of hit outs and contribute around the ground.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

From what I understand he was injured when he landed awkwardly.
Knee wasn't iced abd he didn't look concerned.

So .. All those who want to trade Longer , what if it's a serious injury? I hope it's not at all serious as I'm sure everyone does, but surely some of you may now see why we have our ruck depth, and why we need to keep it.
Hickey and Longer are both required

They may both be required but there is no way one will be there next year.

Re: Hickey goes off injured
They've got to have someone who wants them, and want to go there (ie go interstate if needed). There could be interest in Hickey if he was kept out by Longer and wasn't happy or vice versa. But most teams have developing rucks as well. If the third man rule doesn't change, Hicks needs to show he has the necessary strength to go one on one with ruck monsters. Longer needs to be more effective outside the ruck.jackstevo wrote:supersaints wrote:So .. All those who want to trade Longer , what if it's a serious injury? But both might be happy to stay and push each other on to be their best. If the rotate the ruck this year maybe they will both be happy to contribute to a winning club playing around 11 games each. Not so strange in the modern age of exhausting, congested footy.

Looked like it may be a medial ligament to me. If they thought it was an ACL he would have had scans today.

I don't know any AFL footballers but I know local ones and I don't know anyone who will be pleased in rotating. If they have the real desire to play AFL footy they will want to play every game. And I think it is strange even in todays footy to rotate an even amount of games. Cant think of any players who have done that previously.
I think Hickey would get us a much better pick and I reckon he would be required at a few clubs. The problem is both seemed to want to come to Victoria so that may limit the clubs who can get him.
