Yes. But remember with the $1.5 million with the 20% increase coming that is $1.25 million in today's dollars.st.byron wrote:
Fyfe would be awesome. Just not at 1.5 mil. One big fish via FA and one high quality young player - Kelly, Whitfield et al - via trade. That would be awesome.

Loving the maturing Robbo
IMHO, (Loris) The most important player we need to get his contract sorted out this season is Dylan Roberton,
I hope he re signs early this season & it doesn't linger on till later in the year.[/quote]
When Robbo first came to us from Freeo I was positive @ the beginning & thought he was genuinely likely to transform into a serious backman. With the smooth additions of Carlisle & Brown this year into our defence Robbo is going to a new level I believe. I was saddened to see Demps move on but the form of Robbo lately has been very encouraging.

I think a premiership is more important to Roo and Joey than money at this stage. I think they would both play for very little if Fyfe was available

I still can't see this deal happening.
He's a Perth boy, the Dockers need him badly, and they'll have plenty of cap space opening up as well.

Agree with not putting all the eggs in one basket philosophy.bigcarl wrote:No problem with landing a big fish, so long it doesn't cost overs. You don't want too many eggs in the one basket ... or basket case in St Kilda's case.
Good point that 1.5 mil now may have a different value with the new agreement.
Best case scenario I want to see is :
1. FA big fish at a not too exorbitant price.
2. Trade for high quality young player - i.e Kelly, Whitfield - using first rounder plus player.
3. Take te other first rounder to the draft or trade for another quality player

This is the ideal scenario, but I say get Fyfe. The price becomes a secondary consideration if it pushes us into premiership contention. I reckon he's worth it. In my blue skying scenario, we get Fyfe, trade for Whitfield, draft a young gun like Balta or Garner, and snare Rockliff for nothing as well. Then Margot Robbie comes into my bedroom, disrobes and makes passionate love to me. I then wake up and realise it was all just a wonderful dream.st.byron wrote:Agree with not putting all the eggs in one basket philosophy.bigcarl wrote:No problem with landing a big fish, so long it doesn't cost overs. a nobody DJ in Perth gets contacted by a Saints board member.
Facebook messenger, email, whatever.
Tells him Saints are getting Fyfe.
This radio station, 96FM, was bottom of the ratings ladder for 18 months until about 2 months ago.
Bottom.
This guy is making up a rumour.
Is he a paid up member of the WCE? I have no idea, but if he were, then the rumour is his way of twisting the knife after the Dockers' loss

The news in Perth is quoting Fyfe as saying "if contract speculation ends up being a distraction, I will negotiate earlier"
Perhaps this idiot DJ is a Dockers fan who wants to expedite Fyfe signing?
When I see a rumour, I look at the person saying it, and look for an agenda.
If you are looking at buying a second-hand car, you ask yourself "why is the person selling? Will it need new brakes and a big service soon?"
You have to question motives.

It's a bulls*** story for the simple reason that it can't happen like that.
Can't possibly be a done deal because he is a SFA.
Freo can choose to match any offer made to Fyfe.
He is not in a position to have done a done deal with anyone.
Besides the coach said it was crap, not true.
If a saints official said anything, and I don't believe one did, he was having a lend of the shock jock

Re: StKFC deny report stating Fyfe to play in 2018 with Sain
Playing along with this hypothetical. He won't cost us draft picks. That's the beauty of free agency.
Sure, as he's a restricted free agent, the Shockers can match our offer... assuming they have the cap space. If they do though, they're stoooooopid I reckon. Tying up $1.5 mil on a bloke. Who doesn't want to be there. And whilst they're rebuilding and years off their next serious challenge? Whereas, the flip side for them, would be freeing-up cap space, and getting a juicy compensation draft pick instead. (One after their first pick, I think...? So shouldn't affect 'our' Dawk's pick either. )
My concern is how much would Fyfe be 'invested' in his new club, versus just being a mercenary? And equally, or moreso, the effect on our even player payments structure. Around ~$1 mil a year for a superstar, I could possibly live with, but even allowing for 'footy inflation', the claimed $1.5mil is really really pushing things. If I was St Kilda, I'd definitely be sitting down with the leadership group to gauge how the players would feel about that.
However, we could pay it, and still accommodate the likes of a Whitfield or Hopper (seriously, why the hell would he want to go to that Carlscum rabble?), and one other very good player from the available free agents. (Maybe even Rocky if he wants to smarten up, and play in a premiership side?) And then we still have that top 3 draft pick, plus our original first rounder, which will be in the early teens. (Could even yet be very close to pick 20... )
Lotsa' options. (And that's by clever design.)
So now, play our cards right this upcoming drafting period (and remember, we now have Ameet ), and we can put the final premiership dynasty building blocks in place.
Exciting times Saintas!

Re: StKFC deny report stating Fyfe to play in 2018 with Sain
It's not just about whether Fyfe can return to his 2015 form.
If ARmo can get his body right and can return to his 2015 form - we probably won't need Fyfe. Maybe, we'll just concentrate on what we really need, which is an outside line-breaking midfielder to help Steven out - someone similar to a Brad Hill. That's what will take us to the next level.
Let's hope Armo can get back to his awesome best.

Armo won't get back to any past form as every year goes on, so all I can see is that he will be serviceable player from now on depending on how his body holds up, and not in the same league as Fyfe anyway.samoht wrote:It's not just about whether Fyfe can return to his 2015 form.

Do we know this for sure - that he won't get his body right?spert wrote: Armo won't get back to any past form as every year goes on, so all I can see is that he will be serviceable player from now on depending on how his body holds up, and not in the same league as Fyfe anyway.
I think half way through season 2015 he wasn't far off Fyfe's lofty level.
Fyfe will not provide the outside run and spread that we need in the midfield -to get the balance right.
That's where our focus should be.
Steele could develop into a Fyfe anyway - who knows?- and he's only 21 - and finally getting games and continuity.
Stevens is a good player - he just needed some continuity too.
If we want bang for our bucks - it'd be better spent on recruiting outside-midfield talent. That would be the wise thing to do.
(We probably have Fyfe covered - I'd be happier with the 2 Hills or their equivalent).
