Last 5 – Sandringham: 4, Collingwood: 1

Last Time They Met: Round 20, 2016 – Sandringham 16.18 - 114 DEF Collingwood 7.5 - 47
By Nathaniel Sage

Collingwood make the trip down to Sandringham this week, in a matchup between two teams looking to rebound from losses last weekend.

The Zebras will be keen to get back out on the park after a frustrating loss to Richmond, where the players will feel they lacked poise. Interestingly, they were outscored in every quarter despite losing by only 25 points, which accurately sums up a game where Sandringham were competitive but never quite got going.

Sandringham will be encouraged by the work rate of their tall forwards, as Paddy McCartin pulled in seven marks and Rowan Marshall eight (including four contested). These two also combined for five of the Zebras’ eight total goals. Around the contest, it was Jack Sinclair who stood up with 31 disposals, while James Sziller showed his intensity with a game-high eight tackles.

Collingwood have a lot to improve on after suffering an 80-point loss at the hands of Essendon –whom Sandringham defeated in Round 1. The Magpies conceded ten goals from turnovers in a patchy display, although they only lost the inside 50 count by four so it would appear a big issue was ball use across the ground.

Great to see Freeman getting continuity into his football - we really need him at AFL level when he is ready.

Strange that Holmes is an Emergency for the AFL side but named in the Development VFL side.

There is something very, very wierd going on with our rucks and where, for the life of me I cannot see that Hickey is not our best ruck option - by a Country mile.

What is the injury to Battle ?

How serious is the injury ?

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Collingwood VFL are poor.
McCartin needs a bag.
Very excited about the Irish lads.

Holmes has been dropped and promoted at the same time.

Edit: To the top was way ahead of me but I can't delete this post.

Simple really.

They will take him to Tassie. Then if he is not called upon, he will line up Sunday morning for the development squad

Indeed he did- 1982- to qualify him for the reserves finals. Back in the days when our senior team was so awful, we we supporting the Ressies in their march to a grand final ( which of course they lost ). Cat Colling was ressies captain. When we made the reserves finals again in 87 (another lost GF) I recall going to see them in a final at Waverley, as a curtain raiser to Syd v Haw in seniors, saw Capper lie horizontal across the shoulders of Langford to take a screamer , then went home at QT in seniors as I was so disinterested.

Saints don't now regard a Sandy flag as importantly as a reserves flag in those days - witness all the Saints players they refused to allow play VFL finals last year.

So three home games in a row!
Is Adrian Anderson doing the VFL fixturing?

Think Mark Scott kicked a hundred goals between seniors and reserves that year.
