Re: Hawks 1st round pick watch
The great feeling of seeing hawthorn lose is doubled with the knowledge that every 80 point loss they have, is a step closer to the number 1 draft pick. A very happy saint supporter here

Potentially, the no 1 pick imho.
Freo 2017...thats the hawks. From the top to the bottom by express elevator.
Don't feel a bit sory for them, not one bit.
They humiliated us too often for that.

Re: Hawks 1st round pick watch
We could get an absolute A grader in the draft as well as our own first round pick.
That trade was always going to come back to bite Hawthorn.
We will still be able to go for a free agent and we will be very much a destination club.

Re: Hawks 1st round pick watch
In hindsight, moving both Mitchell & Lewis on at the same time might have done untold damage to the culture of the 'Family Club'.
Players like Burgoyne, Gibson, maybe Cyril and even Hodge, may query is it worth busting our gut out for this Club, they will possibly ditch us at the end of this season even if we don't want to go.
Yes they are an aging & slowing list, but when you weaken the bonding/culture at a club cracks start to appear. Makes it harder for players to digest when the Club gets rid of respected teammates to free up salary space to overpay players from other Clubs.
Hope they keep disintegrating as their first round draft pick is looking better for us with every game.

Hawks were 1-6 a few years back and made the finals. Won't happen this year without Jordan & Sam
though.
though.
i am Melbourne Skies - sometimes Blue Skies, Grey Skies, even Partly Cloudy Skies.
Re: Hawks 1st round pick watch
Hodge, gibson, puopolo, Burgoyne cooked, roughhead 30, Cyril trash when not in a good team. And obviously Lewis, mitchel out last year. Gunston struggling without decent delivery.saint6709 wrote:If Hodge retires they've got nothingPlayon wrote:There goes all the players that want to join Hawthorn
But don't worry they picked up 2 guys to replace those 8 and gave away all draft positions to do it because they clearly don't need it

2010. They finished 7th and were bundled out first week of finals.saintspremiers wrote:Hawks were 1-6 a few years back and made the finals. Won't happen this year without Jordan & Sam

They lost four of those six narrowly.
As you point out they had a better side then.
Won't happen this year.

Two top 10 picks possible.

I can see the Hawks getting themselves above Carlton & Brisbane, perhaps Freo, but I don't see them finishing higher than anyone else. Their percentage should also be smashed.

Re: Hawks 1st round pick watch
But Loris, everyone has been telling us for years that the Hawks culture is so brilliant that they will keep winning forever. Their supporters have blind faith in Clarkson rebuilding the list just like he did the first time around. This conveniently ignores that he walked into a club that already had Hodge, Mitchell and Crawford and was about to acquired Roughead, Franklin and Lewis. It's going to be a bit harder this time around given that they had no picks last year and won't have one in the top 30 this year.loris wrote:In hindsight, moving both Mitchell & Lewis on at the same time might have done untold damage to the culture of the 'Family Club'.

Loris, did you see Benny Mac walking off the ground in tears today? It was the only thing that put a (small) dent in my glee.loris wrote:In hindsight, moving both Mitchell & Lewis on at the same time might have done untold damage to the culture of the 'Family Club'.

I think they've done untold damage to their club. A little too clever by half. And yes, I know they have their premiership cups to hug at night ...

Stuff him. He left, got to play in a premiership side.SemperFidelis wrote:Loris, did you see Benny Mac walking off the ground in tears today? Re: Hawks 1st round pick watch
I don't think we can ever say "he left". We traded him while he was on some tropical island. He might have said yes, but did he have a choice? Of all of the blokes out there I'm not sure he needs to learn any humility.
It just puts a more human face on the cracks.
Now, bring on the Weagles to belt the crap out of them.

Yes, Benny was traded. He didn't ask to leave. He's given us no reason to dislike him. I hope he has a successful remainder of his career on a personal front, but that the Hawks continue to fail.

we're in the unusual position in round 6 of needing a win to improve our draft position!
