Jack Steele

Post: # 1661560Post jaxons »

For those of you that watch footy closely and understand the game.
His handball with 6.05 remaining in the last quarter that set up Membrey's goal needs to be recognised and appreciated for it's poise and vision.
We have a special player on our hands that will get better and better.
Remember he missed a massive chunk of running during the pre-season.

His hands are amazing. So clever, so quick and intuitive that you can't teach (although maybe Bevo's handball acamedy you can). Be up there with the best hands in AFL.

The flip side of that is he may be lacking in metres gained so will need to keep adding a strong kicking game to not be predictable and keep dumping the responsibility on to other players to get the penetration. But modern footy around the ball requires the ability to win the hard ball and then use kick disposal to work it out of congestion and Steele is showing he has both those abilities.

If can keep adding size to his big frame has the potential to be that Kennedy/Watson type ball winner and distributor inside to get the engine room up and running.

Looks very good

He's gonna look even better feeding the ball out to Josh Kelly.

Huge trade Jack Steele, he is a beast and I look at when the game is 'hot in the kitchen' and he always seems to stand up when we need him.
In the 3rd quarter against the Lions when they hit the front and we were staring at 3 and zip he stood up and put some huge efforts in the clinches.
His repeat efforts are outstanding, his big body and strength in the contested ball is phenomenal and he can take a high mark too and i like his kicking for goal.
I will look closer at his hands too next week, I am a massive fan already.

Played a very good game. Strangely a lot of it went unnoticed. Laid 9 tackles and got a lot more of it than I realised, and judging by votes on the B&F thread, most of us missed how influential he was.

He's got a cool head as well, a bit of poise.

What's his kick to handball ratio

He always looks to give off, doesn't he trust his leg?

BTW, before everyone goes crazy, he's been a good pick up

So are you saying Paddy's no good then?

On a more serious note, I would also expect Steele to kick and run with the ball more. He was always looking to handball in the JLT and I put it down to fitness.

I think he tends to play more of an inside role. Wins contested ball and Feeds out a handball to a runner. Could be wrong, but he seems to have a lot of potential and should be huge for us soon

Was the foot issue with his preferred kicking foot?

I reckon Richo has him doing the bulk of the inside stuff while he builds his fitness, you'll see a different beast once he can get on the outside because his foot skills are very good and our big forwards will love him kicking it down their throats out of the middle.
