Paddy Thread #982019 (fluff)
Just thought we should have another paddy thread on the main board.
But seriously, I've had a bit of time this week and been doing a lot of hard thinking, trying to figure out a way to unleash the potential in this maverick - and I've figured it out.
Paddy needs to grow his beard.
Hear me out.
Josh kennedy, first four years, pretty average, but, slowly, as he let that face get a little longer he started to unlock his brute like caveman POWer.
I know it might seem ridiculous, but people probably thought Samson was ridiculous before he started crushing campaigners with his forearm grip.
He needs some swagger, some self belief, some presence!
Crash a pack like Casboult? Put that razor away!
How do you think weller got into the leadership group!?
Seriously though I'd love to see paddy walk out onto that ground like the grass was cut purely for his strutting pleasure. Time for the boy to become a (cave)man.
Does anyone else feel like the boy needs a bit more mongrel, a little more FIGJAM? That our whole team needs a little more FIGJAM?

Reckon Joshy Battle has a bit of the FIGJAM. Interested to see what he shows when he gets a senior game.
I don't disagree with you though, Paddy has a bit of that lovable character about him with the gap tooth grin (even though everyone on here loves to hate him at the moment), and not much in the way of mongrel. I miss the old days of G-Train flattening people in marking contests.

You must be young, did you never see Plugger going for a mark.shrodes wrote:Reckon Joshy Battle has a bit of the FIGJAM. Interested to see what he shows when he gets a senior game.

Some victim (defender not liked by the opposition coach) would be told to fill the hole in front.
Plugger only had eyes for the ball.
Next victim.

Re: Paddy Thread #982019 (fluff)
I think we need to chill out over Paddy. FIGJAM is no good off the field. There is room for some on. It seems like his game has been restricted for the time being. Would love to see him crash the packs. There were some real glimpses of brilliance last year. It's a shame if the concussions and broken collar bone has effected his confidence. If that is the real issue, it could be a tough one to counter. But for the meantime, patience.

"everybody on here loves to hate him at the moment" do they?
What utter rubbish. I love the boy so you can leave me out of your wide sweeping opinion. FFS

Love the McClunk. Want him to succeed with every fibre of my being. Happy for now with a slow buildup.

I think if he goes with a 70's handle bar moustache along with an 80's mullet - instant cult status.

Re: Paddy Thread #982019 (fluff)
Agree, if that is your expectation Mart, I'd say you're going to be disappointed. That is Coleman Medal territory. If he wins one in 8 years that would be fantastic.BackFromUSA wrote:40-60 is what we need - 2 to 3 a gameBigMart wrote:Hope he sheds some fat, adds some strength, leans up and improves his running

Re: Paddy Thread #982019 (fluff)
So we don't have high expectations on the first pick in the AFL draft.... the number 1 pick?!
I'd expect him to win a Coleman
Membrey and Bruce already kick 40-60 and we picked them up for stuff all... a player with the number one pedigree has higher expectations
Sure

Yeah, would like to see him do well, but looks like another high pick who at the best will be serviceable.BigMart wrote:So we don't have high expectations on the first pick in the AFL draft.... the number 1 pick?!

this, He's actually looking pretty skinny in his upper body, but fairly chunky in the legs/glutes. He weighs less than bruce though. I'd like him to be a little heavier but with less puppy fat. Can it be done!?BigMart wrote:Hope he sheds some fat, adds some strength, leans up and improves his running

I'm no athlete, but although my weight has barely changed from my early to late 20's, I'm definitely a lot lot stronger. I'm guessing this is the same with everyone, which gives me hope for Paddy. Once he starts putting more muscle on his frame I think it will help.
I don't feel explosive and core strength is as important for young midfielders, probably one of the reasons they come on quicker. But I'll defer that train of thought to those who actually played the game. (I played a bit of footy, but I don't really count spending the whole game sitting in the goal square waiting to be one out under a high ball as 'playing the game').
