how was that arrogant? he didnt give it to them, didnt show them the ball, he just held it for 10 seconds before they got near. If it was a grand final we'd all be calling it a masterstroke to kill the clock. it did everything he intended. Killed the clock, got a breather and broke the last bit of confidence of the lions
It was a critical time in the game and he made 100% the right call. If he gave it to them, showed it to them, danced around on the line screaming look at me look at me. Id agree 100% Embrace what guys like joey and roo give because we really wont get to see it much longer which is a shame
I agree it could have been worse and there was no taunting as such, but if we imagine it was Montagna that had just put in a hard effort or two, lost and had to concede a goal, and then had to put up with a brisbane player in the goalsquare just standing there with the ball instead of kicking the goal, making Joey run towards him and put in a tackling effort all in absolute, mocking, insulting vain, then Saints fans would have been calling for that brisbane player's head.
It really looked like he was rubbing the guy's face in it. It's not cool. You can win with more grace than that. Again, I'm invoking s very nebulous and inherently dodgy moral standard, but I think it's important.
At the game we'd heard a whistle and thought he was waiting for confirmation he could play on! Didn't get that there was a problem until after the match. Since he didn't do anything overtly unsportsmanlike, I can live with it. Don't expect he'll make a habit of it.
I enjoyed it more when Carlisle roosted it 50+ metres to him and he stood flat footed and did not move to take the mark. That really got up the Lion supporters noses. I just thought it was a bloody good kick and they didn't bother to defend it ...

I can't believe ANYONE swallowed this crap that he was taking time off the clock. It was about 10 minutes into the quarter. For all Joey knew we'd need those 10 sec at the end of the game. It looked ridiculous and his explanation was nonsensical as far as I'm concerned. I agree it wasn't done in an arrogant fashion, but fair dinkum, if a player wears the red white and black we'll pretty much accept anything it appears. I guarantee you if that was an opposition player doing that to us he would be labelled a smartarse in 2 sec flat.

Yes I remember screaming about that at the time. However, now that the shoe is on the other foot, at the time (we watched it on TV), we just didn't understand what was going on. We thought the ball had been called back. But after the replay we could see it was only something someone would do who has been in a game a while. Was only a few seconds. Was surprised at Richo's response. But its in the laws of the game. Think some people have got a bit over excited about it.

Arrogance and disrespect for the opposition should never be tolerated. Without getting too far off track and into very dodgy territory, I think there should be some kind of moral standard and that falls below it, whatever it is.

Well my question is time wasting or not. Why did we need a five second rest with 9.5 minutes to go in the third?
And its a serious question, why are struggling so much that such a tactic is required? Does it mean that we have no hope of maintaining our current game plan? Do we need to introduce a slow it down tactic to allow us to catch our breaths and reload?
I don't know what all the fuss is about. If there is only a few minutes or seconds to go in the last quarter and the other team are playing a zone type defense and nobody is coming up to the player with the ball then they can just stand there and often do. No one says anything then.
