Re: Dempster will retire today
My only regret for Dempster is that he really came into his own from 2011 onwards...
Could you imagine if we got the 2013-14 model for the grand finals. I reckon we'd have won both rather comfortably.
Sad day but at least Sean got to go out on his own terms like the champion that he is.

Under Lyon, he just punched everything that came his way, and I didn't like him much at all.skeptic wrote:My only regret for Dempster is that he really came into his own from 2011 onwards...

Since then he's shown what a magnificant footballer he can be -- those classic hangers and courageous pack marks -- and he's grown into just about my favourite player in the side.
I'm feeling really sad today that he's retired.
Thanks for the pleasure watching you play for us Mr Dumpster.

Re: Dempster will retire today
We all knew this was coming when the club made the bogus announcement after he was not selected for round 1.
That announcement was simply code for "we are negotiating his early retirement package".
Dempster may have been weighing up the concussion issue but in the context of "I don't need another concussion in a dumb practice match or at Sandy".
If he wasn't in the preferred 22 he was not going to be in the 40 senior player list.

Garry Lyon still questioning Sean's integrity this morning and blaming St Kilda for the communication issue all the while defending Barrett's integrity. Just admit he made it up and got it wrong.

As for Dumpster, he's been a champ for us, and arguably the best set of steak knives any club has ever received via a trade.
Dumpster is by all reports a very quiet person, so he may be holding back a bit. But that's fine. It's not like he's 27 and pulling the pin and it's his last year. I, for one, wouldn't be surprised seeing him back at the club in some capacity.

Re: Dempster will retire today
I like Garry but I was really disappointed he went so early with a mis-timed bake. He's normally better than that and he of all people should know there are reasons some one may not play outside a dummy spit. Saints fans knew straight away there wouldn't be any truth in that. Of all players Sean is the least likely to be so petulant and would have just put his head down helping the club on the field where ever he could.maverick wrote:Garry Lyon still questioning Sean's integrity this morning and blaming St Kilda for the communication issue all the while defending Barrett's integrity. But I think the club should have provided enough info to stop them ferreting around and speculating the way they do. That's the cost of being in a billion dollar industry where the public want as much info as possible and there are reporters everywhere trying to get their "scoop". The club tried to do the right thing by Sean privacy but it was a bit naive. A blanket statement about Sean investigating a health issue would have done it.
Sean speaks about negotiating with the club about having a role - such as strength and conditioning. IF he could stick around to mentor Goddard and Coughlan in particular an even Carlisle that would be brilliant. But he may want some time away to work it all through.

This coming from a bloke who went behind his best mates back. He should sort his own issues out before having a crack at someone else's.

Re: Dempster will retire today
Yeh heard that too. So because the club didn’t want to divulge what was actually happening, most likely to respect Sean and his family privacy, it is the clubs fault that Barrett made s*** up and wrapped it up as a scoop. Give me a spell, imagine if the club came out as stated what was actually happening with the closing line …. Please respect Sean’s and his family privacy. The would have been all over him like seagulls over chip.maverick wrote:Garry Lyon still questioning Sean's integrity this morning and blaming St Kilda for the communication issue all the while defending Barrett's integrity. Re: Dempster will retire today
Where there is smoke. Dempster's quotes on the AFl website story this morning are more confusing than clarifying but they do highlight that the club knew all about his concussion issues but then Richo came out and said his non-selection was based purely on form which was bulltoss.
ON a bit of an aside - I reckon Chips fisher would be a bit dirty...surely it came down to him or dempster at last years list discussions...Dempster must have already been having some concerns about concussion etc...because the knock he took in the JLT wasnt severe, so his concerns must have been on the radar...perhaps he wasn't as forthcoming as he could have been seeing an extra 1 year contract on good coin in the offer...NOw we have lost two experienced defenders and a lot of exeperience all before round 3.

You like Garry?
You like a guy who has no integrity whatsover, who cuts his best mate's lunch then questipns the integrity of one of the saints finest players of the past ten years.

Dempster pretty much explains everything on SEN breakfast the other day
Re: Dempster will retire today
You realise a women isn't someone's "lunch" don't you? They were separated - she's not his property and consenting adults can do anything they want. Suck it up Billy and stop acting like you own her. Not sure where the lack of integrity comes from.saynta wrote:Bluthy wrote:I like Garry but I was really disappointed he went so early with a mis-timed bake. Garry got it wrong and would have been nice if he said he went way too early. These guys blather on the radio/tv for hours about what ever topic is floating around and sometimes they get it wrong or don't put it in the best way. But of course internet contributers never get anything wrong and always have wonderful sensitivity to every topic and player.
