Re: Dempster will retire today
This is overwhelmingly sad news if true. Absolutely gutted to see a champion unable to retire on his own terms.

is this your crystal ball, or did you read a chicken's entrails like the ancient Roman oracles did?

Re: Dempster will retire today
Sad news, what a champ he's been… I feel like we've already missed him in the first two matches where our backline has looked all over the place.
I just hope that his long term-health hasn't been compromised from his great playing career.

Last year with Shinners, we got molested by WCE by 103 points.
Brown and Jakey did a sterling job.
Read the match report before you start talking like Sean Spicer (White House Press Secretary)

Sean Dempster
Absolute gun! An elite utility defender who has played either big or small... garlett/Betts/Rioli... Franklin/Cameron/Jack R .... and beaten them... he also selflessly covered for other defenders and dropped of his man to assist
Let's not forget, he took a number of hangers!!!
As professional a player as has been seen at StK
And that's comparable to
Loewe
Harvey
Hayes
Nick R
All Australian, perennial top 5 b&f
Leadership group
Will be sorely missed... he held the backline together... no doubt.
BTW
He'd have done a far better defensive job on Darling!!! He's a shitload better player than Jake C
In a team that was crapped on in the middle for 3qrts Darling kicked two key goals too 6 marks and led Carlisle to the footy.

I'm sure it would surprise most on here if you were able to pause from your <edited by mods> about Gilbo for long enough to watch anyone else on the field…WellardSaint wrote:Did you watch last week or were you chasing Pokemon ?dragit wrote:Sad news, what a champ he's been… I feel like we've already missed him in the first two matches where our backline has looked all over the place.

WCE kicked 18 goals from only 45 entries… about as efficient as you could possibly hope for.
Melbourne took 17 marks inside 50 the week before.
We've conceded 4+ goals more per week than last years average so far.
<warning for offensive post>

Re: Dempster will retire today
This is a bitter pill to swallow, with our defense showing a few cracks. Sean will be a tough one to replace.
But most importantly, I hope Sean's well-being is good and support him on his decision 100% if his health in jeopardy from playing the game.

He was slowing, but at his best, only behind a couple in the league for actual defending.

The only good thing is that it was Dempster's last season anyway.

Re: Dempster will retire today
A just thought of a great nickname for Dempster: The Chief - after the famous Boston Celtics player Robert Parrish who never smiled and always wore his game face.
Damn, shame I thought of it too late

Gave very little away, especially on the field. One of the best bargains we ever brought back from the trade table. Happy retirement, Shinna! Great footballer and an even better bloke.Sainternist wrote:A just thought of a great nickname for Dempster: The Chief - after the famous Boston Celtics player Robert Parrish who never smiled and always wore his game face.

How did he get the nickname, Shinna? Does anyone have the story?

Moniker given at Swans. When he first began most of his kicks (apparently) came off his shin!

Re: Dempster will retire today
End of last season we knew we would lose one of our back duo that held us together back there for so long, never thought it would end up being both. Great player and mr reliable.

If true that's a real loss and a real pity. Outstanding player and individual. I hope the club has some position in which he can continue working with us. Well done on a magnificent career Sean. One of my favourite Saints!
