Re: Poll: Who is our third best player?
And how he managed to achieve that BM, is a bigger mystery than the Bermuda Triangle. He may be good at following instructions and team rules etc., which will always endear you to the coaching group who give the votes, but he is a GOP at best who would struggle to get a game in any of the top seven teams from last year. As you can see by the votes, very few on this forum rate him near the top, which is a reflection on his appointment. Shouldn't your captain ideally also be one of your top players? The other clubs all seem to think so.BigMart wrote:Based on last year???

I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

Baker won the B&F. Was he actually our best player that year?
The B&F is a coaches award and as such in any given year is colored by the thinking of the coaches that year and what they are pushing as important.
Last year Geary gained more votes than Roo. Does anyone really believe that in 2016 that Geary was indeed a better player than Roo?

That's fair but it's also fair to suggest that supporters largely underrate the defensive side of the game. Mostly because they are less aware of it and instead ball watch. A lot of work goes into stopping, especially defenders. Do you notice if on the break, Geary has his man absolutely covered that the opposition take a different option, all game? You would unless reviewing it.

Yes ball watching by supporters, negates understanding a lot of what is happing in defence I agree.Spinner wrote:saintsRrising wrote:Baker won the B&F. Was he actually our best player that year?

Re Geary, did anyone if they were watching the match on Foxtel against Melbourne, actually 'listen' to what Roos was saying?
In the first quarter, he said a few times that Melbourne had to bypass GEARY and Roberton, they had to find a way to kick it over them or the ball will just rebound back.
Later in either second or third quarter when asked about why the change, he said something along the lines of taking the influence of GEARY and Roberton out of the game, and playing the opposite wing to GEARY......... so obviously a recent coach of the Melbourne team, rates Geary's contribution.

Newnes could be our worst after tonight.
Diabolical.
Something not right in his mind atm.

Well Roberton and Ross put their hands up high tonight I thought.
Mitchell did stuff all. Ross gave him a bath.
Roberton is a baby faced assassin. Just so tough.

Re: Poll: Who is our third best player?
Roberton was solid tonight and is pretty consistent. Good on him.
Re: Poll: Who is our third best player?
Robertson played as a plus one
As did Yeo
You'd hope they would go alright... no opponent

Re: Poll: Who is our third best player?
Interesting to re-visit this after a month of footy.
I think the new question is who is our 6th best player?
Our current top 5 seems pretty clear to me now.
1. Steven
2. Roo
3. Ross
4. Roberton
5. Montagna
After that it is unclear with Newnes, Bruce, Brown, Membrey, Geary probably all contenders.
Still a huge concern when 2 of the top 5 are > 33 years old.

Re: Poll: Who is our third best player?
Would probably say brown, with geary a close 2nd. Newnes is off this year, I think some mentioned he had done his hammy? Bruce is struggling and his seven goals this season are really flattering considering his form. Membrey is struggling under more opposition focus and is being played as a second tall, even ought he is 188 cm I thinkCon Gorozidis wrote:Interesting to re-visit this after a month of footy.

Hope one of the younger boys pushes up into this bracket though
