Interstate members' complimentary tickets
I had a call from the club today that I could only get one complimentary ticket for the season. In past years when we have been fortunate to have the Saints play in the West twice (it hasn't happened for a few years) we have been able to get (or at least nominate for) complimentary tickets to both games. It seems this has now changed. How do members in NSW, QLD and SA fare - do you get complimentary tickets to both games if the Saints play there twice during the same season?

Re: Interstate members' complimentary tickets
I was stunned at the price- money's tight in the house and I cannot afford it. The only way I can pay my membership is monthly direct debits.
I feel miserable now.

Re: Interstate members' complimentary tickets
Interstate Membership gives "one" free reserved seat in your state.
Saints go twice to WA and SA, only once to NSW, not sure if they go to Qld at all-
Lions game at Etihad Rd 4 or 5.
Yep, just one free ticket.
We get 5 Etihad games if we travel to Melb, but I am light on for funds...

Re: Interstate members' complimentary tickets
In SA we only ever got complimentary to 1 SA game so looks like WA now falling in line with SA.

Re: Interstate members' complimentary tickets
In SA we used to get a ticket to both games. This hasnt been the case for a few years now. We get the choice of either the cows or the other mob. We usually opt to get tickets to Cow games as by the other mobs game their "supporters" have dropped off.

Re: Interstate members' complimentary tickets
Thanks Noddy04. We haven't had two games in WA for a few years, so perhaps we are just being brought back into line with you guys. Talking to some of the other supporters over here it sounds like quite a few of us have been caught by surprise. I bought a membership for my partner this year for the first time thinking we would be getting the two games. The price of tickets is alarming - $61.00 each! I will be missing a Saints game in WA for the first time in about 15 years.noddy04 wrote:In SA we used to get a ticket to both games. This hasnt been the case for a few years now. We have a brilliant supporters group over here - the Western Saints - and I know they will be taking these matters up with the club. Given that interstate supporters make up about a quarter of all StKilda members they can hardly ignore us!

Re: Interstate members' complimentary tickets
To be corrected by someone from WA -Loris
But from my understanding it has been ballot - luck of the draw for a ticket to 1 of the games in Perth for some years now , but it is a few years since we have had 2 games there
I remember when I went over 1 year and was standing in a line speaking to a local supporter - not member who said they didnt join as members but would just pay whatever /how ever to get to a grand final if we got there.
But the WA supporter group and member base is quite active and has great support

Re: Interstate members' complimentary tickets
Yes, I agree that in some years we have had to go through a lottery, but as far as I can recall we have been able to nominate for both games. And I wouldn't dare contradict Loris
It begs another question though - is it fair that we pay $125 for interstate membership for effectively one ticket (plus 5 tickets in Melbourne if we are able to pay the $1000 or so airfare and accomodation costs each time)? Compare that for example to the $240 our fellow Sainters in Melbourne pay to see 11 games.

Re: Interstate members' complimentary tickets
We used to get tickets to both if there were two games in Qld but a couple of years ago it changed so you have to nominate one game. Seems pretty harsh to me but I'm sure there's a reason.

I guess there would be interstaters in states which dont host games who dont get that as an option

Sorry I'm not following - why should interstate fans get complimentary tickets?
What's the rationale?

Not interstate fans, interstate members. They pay $125 / $245, they should get to see all the Saints games in their state, or at least more than one.sabras wrote:Sorry I'm not following - why should interstate fans get complimentary tickets?

General admission access to five home games played in Melbourne
One FREE reserved seat upgrade to a game in Melbourne if travelling to Victoria during the 2017 Season
One FREE reserved seat to a game played in your state (subject to availability)

Could the club sell one of the Etihad games to the GC or Lions and play up there for the Brissy members?stevie wrote:No Sts games in Qld this season - my son and I still spewing about it lol
Would that work, or is that a crazy idea?

Yes, but we would have been a bit closer to WCE if the inept coaches had selected a proper back 6.shrodes wrote:Considering how well we went last year interstate...WellardSaint wrote:Could the club sell one of the Etihad games to the GC or Lions and play up there for the Brissy members?stevie wrote:No Sts games in Qld this season - my son and I still spewing about it lol

It's like a V8 Supercar team going to Bathurst and picking a gearbox suited to Adelaide street circuit.
Playing the Lions in Qld, that is a definite win for us,
and would make the Qld members happy that they're getting something for their $125.

Re: Interstate members' complimentary tickets
Is it because all interstate games by their nature, are 'away' games?
So the club probably doesn't have as many free/cheap tickets up their sleeve.
Melbourne based members get to see home games, but what about away games in Melbourne?
Obviously it depends on the level of membership - but for a Melbourne based member with say, a 5 game membership (or something close to what us interstate members get), what would it cost to buy a st kilda members area ticket to go see the saints play an away game at the G?

Extra tickets seemed to be ready for the asking, once the Lions slid back down the ladder
Regardless if we don't play up here at all then we interstaters have just made a non deductible gift for 2017

Re: Interstate members' complimentary tickets
I think you are right to some extent Premium89. For whatever reason there are only ever 500 seats available for Saints members at Subi Oval and as we have about 1400 members in WA then something has to give (assuming that at least 1000 WA members want to go to at least one game). I just hope that the club are continuing to look at this issue and continuing to do what it can to encourage new members to come on board around the country, and not just in Melbourne. Not all kids in WA want to become Eagles or Dockers supporters. Many are open to supporting other clubs. If the club wants to push up to 50000 members then it needs to continue to work hard to attract new members in areas such as WA.
