Saint wagga wrote:Great win! Carlton we're really bad! Longer is nowhere near as good as hickey and I'm convinced hickey will be our standalone ruck for round 1. I think Steele has pushed his way into our best 22, and I'd pick Webster over savage for a back flank, Mackenzie probably just missing out on rd 1 at this stage. adter today our current best 22 imo is:
Geary Carlisle Dempster
Monti Roberton Webster
Newnes Armo roo
Weller mCcartin billings
Gresham Bruce membrey
Foll: hickey Ross Steven
Int: Dunstan Steele Gilbert
4th int spot from Stevens, acres, weight, Minch, Sinclair, Lonie, Mackenzie

What do people reckon?
Very good.
I thought brown was good and ive got a feeling hes a walk up start. We have to stop hogan and weiderman or watts.
Dunstan Ross and steele will become very good close to a graders by years end. Dunstan is fantastic. And seems to have gained some endurance.
Nathan wright was good too. His goal sense is phenomenol. Hes tough and quick i want him in.
Gilbert maybe he unlucky one. Although i think he may get the nod ahead of webster. Is monti going to be ready?? I wouldnt rusj him.

For me
ROUND 1

Geary Carlisle Dempster
Roberton Brown Webster
Billings Armitage Reiwoldt
Weller McCartin Wright
Gresham Bruce Membrey
Foll: Hickey Ross Steven
Int: Dunstan Steele Gilbert Newnes

How can savage not get in though??

Ahhh too many. This team will do. Theyll domilish melbourne. Ffs they went full steam and could only beat carlton by 52???
We are better lets smash em AGAIN! I want 60 point + win

Just watched the game. So unbelievably satisfying to see we actually have some depth. Steele was a boomer, wasn't he?
I thought Dunstan showed some pace off a standing start a few times, which was a nice surprise. And Long will be a beauty; tackles like a third year already.
If Carlton weren't so awful I'd be dancing a jig.
But still, an extremely good, whole of team effort.

How worried should the Blues be?
ONE thing was very clear at Ikon Park on Saturday. St Kilda and Carlton are heading in vastly different directions.

Outstanding effort. :D My 22 is firming:

Geary Carlisle Dempster
Roberton Brown Savage
Billings Armitage Reiwoldt
Weller McCartin Wright
Gresham Bruce Membrey
Foll: Hickey Ross Steven
Int: Dunstan Steele Gilbert Newnes

Very Close: Webster, Acres, Mackenzie, Long, Longer
Love to see Battle and Freeman get a run for second half next week if both fit. Game result matters little.

If not, we won our last two games there against them by 91 and 92 points.
We played there in '07, it was Clint jones first game and he got leather poisoning. Didn't hit a target though!

The thing about Clint was his consistency.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Agree, he looks the goods alright

Incredibly disappointing to watch the ABC news and see ZERO coverage of the game.

They covered absolutely everything else except our game.
They did the cricket.
They did the womens footy.
Then they did the ethnic game and even the womens soccer (featuring totally empty grandstands).
Then something about rugby.

But NOTHING on our game, not even a score.
Disgraceful.

National News on the ABC and TEN on the weekend. Not worth watching.

What would you expect from the ABC? Mainstream stuff? LOL. If it's diverse it will get a guernsey. If its normal then it won't.

I don't really expect the ABC to cover practice matches. That's what I turn to Fox Sports News for.

Couple of little things I noticed yesterday... bailey rice didn't get a lot of it, but is very very clean with it. Membrey jumping at packs a lot more than I can remember last year, he was more a verticle leap, now more into on top of packs, a good sign.

Agree with this.

Billy did what he did in 2015. Won plenty of hitouts but didn't offer much else. Reminds me of Trent Knobel.

Hickey is twice the footballer in my view.

Seriously? AFter Hicks was top 5 last year? Billy has been good but not brilliant in these preseason games. Richo does love his big bodied, physical guys. I would be skeptical until R1 is selected. Richo could just be trying to get Hickey to take it to another level by telling him he's no. 2 presently. Unless they want to try Longer main ruck and Hickey in a fwd/relief ruck role. Hickey showed glimpses of that last year but wasn't particularly reliable. I'll believe Longer is 1 when I see it in round 1.

Not sure if it was mentioned in this thread but how good was McClunken's 80m point off one step?
That penetration in his kick will be gold. I can see him marking anywhere from 50-90 out wheeling around and drilling it where ever he wants to Membrey, Bruce, or any midfielders streaming forward

This!!!!!

How many defenders are we going to 'blow up' when we have Bruce 0 - 45, Membrey 25 - 50, and McCartin 45 - 70 out, as well as a mosquito squad buzzing around the 50 - oh - and just the odd contribution from Riewoldt.

More than anything else - I saw that kick as a massive win - if it had been on target, it is all we would have heard about until Round 1!

Paraphrasing Forged in Fire - "This kid, sir, can play"
