On a hot day. Won't be allowed to run around unmarked like that in the real thing but seems to have built a pretty good tank.shrodes wrote:Paddy was immense. 12 marks, all over the ground. Has done something influential in each quarter, and worked hard the whole game.
Might not have hit the scoreboard, but has really contributed as a target and link-up.

I know it's only JLt but we looked good. Blues gave up in the 4t but we came out and won it in the 2nd and 3rd. Team had a nice balance. Steel tops! Minch still a future, Bruce champ!... what really impressed was the new Gen won it today and they're looking good. GOOOO Saints!

Nicky dal. f*** me.
What's this crap about it being good to have Jack Steele back in Melbourne?

Best for me:
Steven - that burst line breaking speed is just so dangerous
Steele - for a guy coming off a bad injury seems to be getting the confidence flowing through him. Great tackling and contested ball inside and dangerous AF forward.
Billings - floats around and can set up play from anywhere using his footy intelligence
Bruce - 7. Yes 7. And took some great contested marks. Might suit him to stay in the 50 at all times.
McCArtin - 12 marks and seemed unstoppable to young blues backmen who couldn't stay with him let alone spoil him
Dunstan - was really good early getting around the ground well and using his trademark phsyicality in tackling and contested ball
Sinclair - found space a lot in the forward line early getting unmarked
Gresham - showed some real neatness with the footy able to hit targets and a goal
Newnes - Got stacks of it in his half of footy and used it well
Longer - was physical in the ruck but did get outjumped a bit. Hot day for him

Yeah both good and got lots of it. Both frustrate me with their kicking - they tend to be all duck or no dinner.saynta wrote:Bluthy wrote:Best for me:

Re: Match Thread v Blues JLT 2
Have we played Carlton in a pre season game there since 2002?
If not, we won our last two games there against them by 91 and 92 points.

Hate those pricks with a passion.
It was a bad ground for the Saints for the majority of my time here on earth.

Where did Minch play?
I really like this kid. Small but tough inside player with an ability to hit the scoreboard and be a play maker. Hope he gets a decent crack this season.
Both him and Wright seem easy choices on paper to be pushed out but I reckon they could be diamonds

Re: Match Thread v Blues JLT 2
Great win! Carlton we're really bad! Longer is nowhere near as good as hickey and I'm convinced hickey will be our standalone ruck for round 1. I think Steele has pushed his way into our best 22, and I'd pick Webster over savage for a back flank, Mackenzie probably just missing out on rd 1 at this stage. adter today our current best 22 imo is:
Geary Carlisle Dempster
Monti Roberton Webster
Newnes Armo roo
Weller mCcartin billings
Gresham Bruce membrey
Foll: hickey Ross Steven
Int: Dunstan Steele Gilbert
4th int spot from Stevens, acres, weight, Minch, Sinclair, Lonie, Mackenzie
What do people reckon?

Ps: I really liked that so many of our young small forwards spent time in the middle and looked good very comfortable albeit against very poor opposition! Great signs though, lets hope we can develop another jack Steven from this brigade

Re: Match Thread v Blues JLT 2
STEELE!!! he was looking very good!! Great pick up. Its such BS that he was 10th in line at GWS. He was starting on ball when he was fit. Amazing inside player but also great goal sense and outside skill. Weve got a beauty there.
