Bruce 196 is a good size for a key forward but Paddy is only 194 and Membrey only 188. Compared to GWS and GC who have huge forward lines ours is actually pretty small. In fact you can even argue that Membrey is a medium fwd who has managed to play as key fwd maybe due to long arms and brilliant timing.
What having a relief ruck would do is let them push forward and maybe take one of the big backs which can free up others and stop them getting it to the ground too easy. I'm a big worried we might be undersized otherwise letting oppo using smaller, more athletic backs. If Membrey can show he can rotate through the midfield that gives us more options on the fwd line. Plus Membrey might be able to play a real pressuring role if he can get his endurance up which means we could play another tall.
I'm a big fan of having two decent rucks as you you don't want to give up anything in clearances in finals where contested ball is so important but also as backup if one goes down as they dogs found in the prelim. Without Boyd being good in the ruck they would have lost. But then again Carlisle has the genuine ruck size and could be good in that relief role. But you'd have to pull him out of his defensive role which might screw things up down back.
Good to have options so they'll keep working on Marshall and Pierece to see how good they can be as both rucks and forwards (and maybe Marshall as a backmen too)
