Re: Next captain of StKilda
http://www.saints.com.au/news/2017-01-1 ... hip-growthRichardson revealed that St Kilda Director of Coaching and Development, Danny Sexton, has introduced a leadership program at the club which has had a significant impact in the last few months.
“We’ve certainly given plenty of guys the opportunity to lead, whether that be in training sessions or in activities away from footy that has put people out of their comfort zone. Danny Sexton has designed and implemented a very thorough leadership program that I believe has the potential to improve every player on our list,” Richardson told saints.com.au on Wednesday.
“That was one main facet of the camp in New Zealand, to see how they’d respond and how they’d cope and it gave coaches and their peers the opportunity to provide feedback.
“We’ve seen some great growth from the next group of leaders coming through, Seb Ross, Josh Bruce, Tim Membrey, Luke Dunstan, Dylan Roberton, Tom Hickey et cetera.

Only contenders are Gears, Mav, Jack S & Jack N.
Jack S struggles to communicate in the same way that Harvs did - both great players but not captain material.
Gears would be a poor choice because of his age.
Answer the question!
Next captain should be Mav with Newnesy Vice

Ever go to a game last year idiot and watch the forward pressure applied by #44.
Clearly not.
Year on year improvement also not something you've identified . Thank goodness I have not been on this site long enough to read your amazing 10k + posts!
Look forward to you identifying other players who won't be in your best 22 But still are in the years ahead

I still think this is the conservative, safe and most likely option.Con Gorozidis wrote:My leadership group prediction:

I cant see Richo doing anything radical or upsetting the hierarchy.
It would be a huge risk to thrust Newnes or Mav in to the Captaincy so young. Just cant see it happening.

If you remember idiot I said the club had an A grade midfielder on top of its recruitment priorities. In the end they recruited Koby Stevens and jack Steele - to bolster their midfield. As for you rehashing that mav was delisted and lucky to be picked up in the rookie draft - what possible relevance does that have to his present and future worth.
I attend every open training session and some closed and have seen not only the improvement but the impact he is having on those around him.
The playing group respect him for his preparation and I love his ferocity in the contest as he reminds me of AH.
Before Mav arrived we had zero forward pressure, that has all changed.
Am I related - what an idiot question from an idiot poster.
I have just been to more games and can see those players that are not only improving but have improvement in them/.
Mav is one of those guys.
Have I met him, yes many times and he's just as impressive off the field as on.
BUT idiots like you will still bring up his delisting and rookie drafting - why because you are an idiot and life has proven that it's impossible to rationalise with idiots.

Re: Next captain of StKilda
Mav is a long way from established, he's been a good role player but has not consistently contibuted during games, although has had good games, and made an impact forward of the ball, and tagging the year prior.
I think Mav would have hoped to be a mid, but is not quite good enough.

You seem like a really top bloke, but it feels like you might be getting a little too close to the situation to make a rational judgment.

Can we stop the bickering?
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Can also share Fyfe's management was spoken with.
Think it was pretty clear the focus of the trade period for us was to bolster our mids.
I was also the one that signalled quite early that Eli would be gone

I just can't fathom the logic of the appointment.
To transition from Roo to Gears is same/same to me and I can't understand why not Roo again if Gears get's the job.
Needs to be someone from the next generation for mine

Re: Next captain of StKilda
Gears is 28, Roo is 34
Maybe they don't think the younger generation are quite ready and gears is a good transition option.
I would have thought Armo is a good fit, but obviously the club and players think Gears is better suited.

Re: Next captain of StKilda
It surprises me about Armo too. To me he's often acted as an onfield captain over our difficult recent years driving the team onfield particularly in the midfield when Lenny finished. I loved the dogs come back game where you could see him going around to everyone saying "whats happening out here" with his hands on his hips - and then our brilliant come back that he helped trigger.dragit wrote:Gears is 28, Roo is 34

He's great on tv but is he seen as too goofy? Does he not prepare as immaculately as he could? Maybe he's not as willing to confront players about weaknesses and workrate as Gears, a guy who have gotten the maximum out of himself by relentless work? ARe there serious concerns about his fitness (back/groin) that he needs to focus on that?
Maybe Armo doesn't want it - you gotta want the extra responsibility and work that comes with it and Armo doesn't strike me as the most responsible guy. I think he likes a good time as a good looking rooster.

In 2-3 years we will be ready to move to Weller/Ross/Newnes.
No need to fast track the youngsters and upset the apple cart.

Ross would be a nice left field - I think as captain he could help inspire our youngsters to take their games to the next level - just as he did himself in 2016.

Re: Next captain of StKilda
Roo has been a great captain, but who else is really leading by example game after game? The captain needs to be a leader, fearless and lead by example, Geary seems to be the logical choice so far, and really played some strong footy in the later part of last season. I think there is a bit of a gap to the next group of players who might be considered as captain material, until some get more consistent and put their stamp on games on a regular basis.
