Training today

Post: # 1647938Post yipper »

Had the opportunity to stop in and have a look at them this morning at Seaford.

Not easy to see across the ground in the sun and it was really quite glary - but...

it was a really tough session - the boys are being worked hard. they did set drills training in 3 groups - all about clearances and moving the pill quickly (a saints trademark under richo) then they went into a full match simulation which was really very hard fought and highly contested. Standouts were Freeman, Ross, Armo, Webster and Blake Acres. Freeman trained very strongly and is moving freely. He was a very good player in this little scratch match.

They then had a tough, full contact one on one session - a ball kicked high - 2 players competed for the ball and then went again and again. Very physical and competitive.

They then had to do a running drill that was quite simply punishing. They were starting to urge each other on - a good sign that it was taking its toll on them - impressed with Freeman again who kept running strongly, young Ed Phillips, Josh Bruce is a machine - he just keeps on going, and the usuals like Gears, Newmes and surprisingly both Armo and Ross were strong runners. Gilbo was also impressive.

In the gym was Rooey, Carlisle, Steele??, Paddy, Hickey, Steven, Savage and Dunstan were on light duties I think. Again hard to pick out players in the glare.

Aussie Jones was an interested onlooker with his son.

Overall - interesting session - was impressed with the work ethic. They trained strongly and impressively being a pre-xmas session. Really tough going for them.

Cheers all.

Great to see a few at training today. Think there were six or so! Generally Monday, Wednesday, and Friday out on the park pre season. All welcome.

And yipper I'm sure you would have been impressed with Brandon White. Standout at the moment.

Of course my apologies. Indeed. Brandon White is doing everything he is one of the leaders in the running. And he also played well in the match simulation. He is looking great.

Wonderful report, yipper ! it's heartwarming to see that sort of news in the off-season, when we all have mixed feelings about summer, missing footy.

I realise he's a bit injured but Carlisle not being out there disappoints me somewhat. High pick, had a year off and still can't make it out there pre-xmas. Has dildoro sold us a pup again?

Carlisle was in all the videos from the NZ camp. Seemed to be working pretty hard there. Maybe he's now the wrong side of 25 & is having a "recovery" week.

Okay, thanks for that. That doesn't sound so bad.

And thanks Yipper for the report.

Had hip surgery didn't he? Probably part of his management to sit some of the drills out before Xmas.

Brandon white is impressing due to his work ethic - he was running hard up the front in that gruelling running drill they did, he is showing good form on the track - played well in match simulation and he looks cut. Developing into a very fit, strong footballer.

thanks Yipper, this is great news
will have to try and get down there tomorrow - Tony or Yipper, what time do they normally start?

also very encouraged by this quote from Gresh re Paddy Mac

“He’s going really well; he’s a lot fitter and stronger; he’s tearing training apart,” he said.
“I reckon he’s going to take another step forward next year, he’s going to be really good for us next year I think.”

Scary thought for defenders! :)

Yipper, none of our new players impressed? You mentioned Ed Philips, then said nothing about him.
