Some of the greatest players in the history of St Kilda Football Club have worn the sacred No. 4 guernsey. And now budding star Jade Gresham will join an exclusive clique that includes Tony Lockett, Darrel Baldock, Barry Breen and Andrew Thompson.
After an eye-catching debut season by the 2015 first round pick, Gresham has shuffled down from the No. 22 he wore across 18 games in 2016.
Humbled by the club's decision to allocate him the famous guernsey, Gresham is excited to return to a number he has worn for most of his football life.
“I’m pretty honoured and humbled to be given the No. 4. Some special players have worn it, I’m looking forward to wearing it next year,” Gresham told saints.com.au on Wednesday.
“I’ve worn that number for a lot of my junior career, I wore it at the Northern Knights and I’m just pumped to get the opportunity to wear it again.”

In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.
I'm a big fan for the ultimate respect of number 4, when I was a kid Baldock was my favourite, and then Plugger was the best. Thought Thompson was a bit fortunate to be given the privilage, but I've been respectfully dissapointed the gave the number to Clint and Templeton. Gotta say I'm a huge fan of Gretham and delighted to see him in the number 4

Making a belated comeback!!!!!!!!!!!!..................he had 2 e's though
Its great that our No.1 rover has number 3, which has always been a rovers number, after Ross Smith and Super Duper.
Other important numbers are 10,Bill Mohr, Neil Roberts and Carl Ditterich, 12 Harold Bray, Gary Colling and Roo. and of course 35. No. 5 should be special after Ian Stewart, close to the best player ever to wear the Red White and Black.
As a little kid I had No. 3 on my back for Keith Rosewarne. another rover.
Really wanted to see Paddy in the number 4 but I'm just as happy that Gresh is the new number 4. Jade's a little legend. It's going to be good to see the number 35, the 4 and the number 2 back out the park again.
St Kilda youngster Jack Sinclair will wear club legend Robert Harvey's iconic No.35 guernsey next season, as the club revealed the next number change ahead of 2017.
The 21-year-old burst onto the scene in his debut season in 2015, playing 18 games off the rookie list, before adding a further nine games this year to take his career tally to 27.
Having followed the Saints as a young boy and grown up idolising Harvey, Sinclair said it was an honour to receive the dual Brownlow medallist’s famous digits

Rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly..!!
I am not really sold on the idea of dribbling every day or every other day who has what number. I find it silly and boring. Please publish all sainters with their numbers at once.
The idea of announcing a new re-signed player every ?week last year was fun. But jumper numbers at a dribble? No fun.

Come on, it's a long off-season and we need something drip fed to keep us all going til next season. Especially now the trade and draft period is over.

Why don't we just be like the Bombers, and get some bull-s**t puff piece in the Herald Sun everyday. That will keep us in the spotlight over summer....

Will be worn by Jack Steele.
Sinclair moving to Banger's old number too.
Sharing with Josh Bruce, then?????
Do you ever get anything right stonecold? Should change your nick to deadwrong.
What has stonecold got wrong here #gosaintas?
Wasn't stonecold just posing a question?
In another thread, jaxons predicted Bruce would get number 9........ now he's saying Steele will get #9. IMHO, reasonable for stonecold to have his tongue in cheek, lighthearted quip re jumpersharing.
As jaxons calmly replied to stonecold ........... Plans change stonecold.

Bruce had wanted number 9 but in the end it is going to Jack Steele.
