Re: Rookie draft
They are showing Ben Jarman as pre-selected father-son for Adelaide at initially pick 44.
I don't know why they are not showing Ray Connellan at our pick 27.
Maybe we get to have rookie B pick at 27 having used our rookie A at pick 10.

Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

You are not going to lose your job to AI.
You are going lose your job to somebody who uses AI.

Re: Rookie draft
Way back in time the pre-season draft was held pre-season so after the new year and the same with the rookie draft.Jacks Back wrote:Isn't it still 2016 though for a month and a bit?ace wrote:The AFL have finally brought their web page into 2016, just in time for the 2017 rookie draft.
You can understand why earlier in the day they still had last years 2016 draft order on their website.
They have got no idea what year it is.
They are showing the rookie draft order as St Kilda as initially having picks 10 and 27 with Richmond not having a 2nd round pick.
The order is based on activated picks.
Draft pick numbers will change as clubs pass on picks.
Some picks will already be locked in as pre-selected picks.
I don't think there is going to be any picks in the pre-season draft ahead of the rookie draft.
That gives player selected a chance at near a full pre-season of training.
That has created a naming problem for the AFL when they brought them forward to be shortly after the main draft.

Re: Rookie draft
Why did we take a ruck in the rookie draft? What's the point in having 5 on the list.

"A former rugby player from New Zealand who showed the versatility to play ruck, key defence and go forward to kick a goal for North Ballarat in 2016 after being overlooked in his draft year in 2014. He averaged 15 disposals and 11 hit-outs per game in the VFL, was invited to the Victorian state combine and showed he can cover the ground by running a 13.1 beep test and 3.11 second sprint over 20m."

Re: Rookie draft
So what is the point of these zoned multi-cultural academies if anyone can take your nominated player. You have to wait until they are literally the dregs of all the drafts and then you get them????ace wrote:FILTHSt Chris wrote:Also noticed Mitch McCarthy was picked up by the 'Pies, so no freebie for us.....

With Natanui out for most of next season they can temporarily upgrade Petrie.Bluthy wrote:Drew Petrie to WC WTF?
This way they do not use up a senior position on their list, which they would have done if they had taken him as a delisted free agent.

Future key position. Raw, but heaps of potential. Forward, back, pinch hitting in then ruck. Modern prototype for a second ruckman. Long way to go, but if he makes it we have another piece of the 2020 premiership puzzle. That's if we don't win it beforehand.Wombat15 wrote:Why did we take a ruck in the rookie draft? And he turned down a 2 year deal from the swans.

Moves well. Reads the play well. Kicks well (both feet). Handballs well. Even seems to like the Richo move-the-ball-on-quick thing. Wonder if the club isn't also looking at him helping out as a key defender(?)

Rowan Marshall (North Ballarat)
Age: 21
Position: Ruckman/Key defender
2016 VFL average numbers: Averaged 15.4 disposals — the second most of any ruckman in the VFL. He also averaged 11 hit-outs and five intercepts per match.
A 203cm big man from New Zealand with a rugby background, Marshall looms as one of the most versatile and unique VFL prospects ahead of November’s drafts. He missed out on selection in his draft year (2014), but has developed significantly in the VFL over the past two years. After starting the 2016 season as the Roosters’ No. 1 ruckman, Marshall moved into a utility-style role, playing predominantly down back and sneaking forward to kick the occasional goal. He was then invited to the Victorian state combine where he showed off his athleticism, finishing with 13.1 in the beep test and a time of 3.11 seconds in the 20m sprint. He’s competitive in the ruck and an interceptor down back — a unique combination but one that potentially appeals to AFL recruiters.

Re: Rookie draft
So is Rowan Marshall 198cm, 200cm or 203cm as I've seen or heard all those heights mentioned?
Either way it sounds like we are looking for that second ruck/forward option who Hickey can rotate with.

As ex-president Peter Summers said:
