Rookie draft

Post: # 1646772Post st sandy »

Can someone advise the selections we have in the rookie draft (if any) to be held on monday.
With Saunders and payne being delisted this has creased spots on the list, however there are the irish boys as international rookies.....way to difficult for me to figure out

Thanks in advance

Pick 5

As far as I know we can get mitch mccarthy and irish blokes when we want, so not sure pick 5 matters if we are picking 4 players then wed use pick 5 on someone else.
How many rookies are we choosing i dont know but those 3 players defo you would think.

The only way we get rookie pick 5, is if 5 clubs that finished below us on the ladder have failed to delist and failed to promote any rookies thus not creating a rookie vacancy.
We finished 10th from the bottom, we get pick 10

We have created 2 rookie A vacancies and 3 rookie B vacancies.
But one of our Irish recruits will be called to fill one of those B vacancies and the other Irish recruit called to fill one of those A vacancies.
We will select a kid at 10, then if we have any B rookies ideas call them next, otherwise just call our pre-listed Irish recruits.

See post "Pre-Season & Rookie Drafts".

We will have 3 live selections guys because Saunders Payne delisted and Holmes upgraded.

Plus 1 pick has to be used on 1 of the 2 Irish blokes (Joyce & Cannelin)

So effectively 2 new players and an irish bloke on the rookie list.

That clear?

But if we or no one else has selected our academy pick - can't remember his name - MM - then can he be an extra?

If we rookie any Kiwis they become International Rookies which make them category B rookies, we could actually take two of them.
But I have not heard any mention of them being pre-listed.

Holmes was category B rookie.
We have one rookie A and two rookie B vacancies after including the two pre-listed Irishmen

Don't be fooled the AFL is presently showing the 2015 order on their website.
We have pick 10 unless the AFL has ........ up again.

Anyone know what time th rookie draft starts? The coverage for the draft has been dreadful. The AFL must think the fans don't care about it.

BOTH the 2017 Pre-Season Draft and 2017 Rookie Draft will be held on Monday 28 November from 4PM AEDT.

While held in 2016, naming conventions and scheduling of previous pre-season and rookie drafts mean they are titled as the drafts for 2017.

Neither draft will be televised, with foxfooty.com.au providing live coverage of the picks as they happen online

Mitch McCarthy and B.Morrish please.

IF we got those two it would be perfect drafting imo. 2016 would be A+.

Don't be confused
We have pick 10
Then we add two pre-listed Irishmen one as a rookie A and one as a rookie B
Then if no-one takes Mitch McCarthy we are free to take him on as a rookie B if we like.

According to the AFL site, clubs were to lodge their final lists by midday, then the RD order was supposed to be announced at 1.00pm.....finally announced at 2.30pm - Saints - DP 10 & 27

They may be able to list McCarthy as Cat B rookie

IMO best of those not taken in the ND:

Scharenberg
Matt Guelfi
Sam Walker, Romensky

IMO Best of the delisted:

O'Shea, Barrett, Woodward & Terlich

The AFL have finally brought their web page into 2016, just in time for the 2017 rookie draft.
You can understand why earlier in the day they still had last years 2016 draft order on their website.
They have got no idea what year it is.

They are showing the rookie draft order as St Kilda as initially having picks 10 and 27 with Richmond not having a 2nd round pick.
The order is based on activated picks.
Draft pick numbers will change as clubs pass on picks.
Some picks will already be locked in as pre-selected picks.

I don't think there is going to be any picks in the pre-season draft ahead of the rookie draft.
