A couple of points:

The Saints are trying to get the BLK sponsorship contract voided. They are currently in negotiations with another supplier and an announcement should be made early in the new year.

Matt Finnis and co meet up with key Kiwi officials on their recent trip to NZ in regards to playing games in Auckland (at a venue being built for test cricket). The outcome is looking positive.

All 10 recruits were introduced by Richo with Nathan Brown saying a few words on behalf of them.

I didn't take notes but here is what I can remember - apologies if I have left out some stuff or attributed comments incorrectly to people.

Peter Summers started with the President's report and mentioned:
- profit of over $1m for the year, which includes grant funding for the Moorabbin oval redevelopment
- profit before interest, depreciation and amortisation around $150k. which has been impacted by the increase in depreciation of Linen House
- although the club has improved we need to do better particularly as the competition is becoming tougher
- finishing in 9th place was strange as we missed out on playinmg finals but finished as the best of the rest
- two Board members re-elected - Russel Kaplan and Paul Kirk

Matt Finnis then gave his CEO's report.....(sorry, don't recall details)

Then questions from the audience:

What impact will the purchase of Etihad Stadium by the AFL have on our match day proceeds?
- negotiations will be held over the next 9 months to determine new financial arrangements
- this represents a major opportunity to provide a significant improvement for the club over the long term

When will the Moorabbin re-development start?
- expect demolition to commence early in the new year
- expect project to be completed late in 2017 or early in 2018

Why not have a physical outlet in StKilda to sell merchandise?
- this will be given consideration, however the current priority is to have the outlet at Moorabbin redeveloped and to improve the mobile/online outlets (???)

...there may have been some other questions....

Richo then came up onto the stage, spoke fo a while and introduced each of the new players. Comments:

Jack Steele - tough midfielder who is good on the outside, will complement our existing midfield, not in full training yet due to a foot problem although expected him to be available for the start of the season (Jack then nodded when Richo looked across at him!)
Nathan Brown - big defender who will look after the opposition's big forwards, which have been a problem for us
Koby Stephens - aggressive mid who will also complement our current midfielders, played very well for the Dogs against us kicking 3 goals and getting 2 votes, although the main reason we like him is for his consistent performances over last season
Ben Long - has done it the tough way to get drafted having missed out in last year's draft, played good footy for Footscray last season, Spud wants him to play back, Adam Kingsley wants him to play mid but Richo wants him to play forward
Josh Battle - key forward, like Tim Membrey but with better endurance
Ed Phillips - a little like Nick Dal Santo in the way he plays 'very vertical', another mid to complement the others, not like Nick Dal Santo for wearing white shoes (the other players all had dark shoes on!)
Ray Connellan - Irish rookie, very quick, has shown some good form in training so far, see him as a wing (or half-back flanker??)
Darragh Joyce - Irish rookie, has learned a lot since joining the team, is Spud's favourite apart from Nathan Brown, potential key defender
Rowan Marshall - ex North Ballarat/Portland boy, can play in a variety of roles, possible key forward/ruck.

His other comments included:
- although he is happy with the way the forwards are now working, he still wants improvement from the defence which he has mentioned in previous years. He expects a more aggressive defence with the ability to move the ball quicker
- he noted the improvement over the last season of Seb Ross, Hickey and ...(another)...
- pre-season training is getting easier now that he has been there for a few seasons and that there is now some continuity in the player group
- our best is good enough to beat any team in the competition but we have to be more consistent and bridge the gap between our best and our worst performances (such as the interstate games)
- the pre-season training camp in New Zealand was as much about testing the leadership qualities of the player group when placed in unfamiliar situations that were outside their comfort zone as it was about improving their physical condition.

Richo also answered some questions from the audience:

What difference does the new deal with Sandringham make?
- it provides full control over the development of the playing list, including removing the restriction on how many StKilda players can play in games for Sandringham

Why not let Roo continue as captain for 2017 given he is our best player and doing so would give him the AFL record for most games captained which would be appropriate for him?
- Roo is ready to pass on the captaincy to the next generation of leaders which shows his quality in a selfless act
- if this can make a difference of 2 or 5 percent to the team then it is worth doing.

Nathan Brown then spoke on behalf of the new players and praised the club for making them feel part of the 'family'. A nice touch.

Sounds like he's suspended for two weeks from being reported in his last game.

He was reported in a VFL match. Sandy does not play its first game till April 15. Can he serve his suspension in the NAB challenge, or during AFL rounds, or is he actually out of action for us until end April ?

That's a really good question. I'm quite sure that the NAB games don't count and he could play in those.

So the VFL suspension is only relevant to VFL and AFL games. Even though he got a VFL suspension I don't think he has to serve it in the VFL. He is a senior listed player and so (without the suspension) he would be eligible to be selected for the first AFL game of the season and that should count as his serving his suspension, even if the club never really had the intention of playing him at that level.

So it won't be a suspension at all then.
