Cubs Curse
I was reading about the curse of the Chicago Cubs and got me thinking has a curse from our past been put on our club, we should've won Flags in 1971, 1997, 2009 and 2010 but things always happened to prevent the win. Am just putting it out for discussion amongst us Saints fans and see what everyones thoughts are, for me, sometimes I think we have but cant think of one moment in 51 years of following the Saints if we have one or not. Think of the lost moments in Grand Finals, Injuries, Drawn GF and then AFL changing rules for it, Trevor Barkers Illness when he was being groomed to take over etc etc.

Re: Cubs Curse
I think there is some story about a curse being placed on the club - something about an indigenous curse?

Re: Cubs Curse
It must have been between 1966 and 1971 when we were cursed and Hawthorn were blessed (them having won 12 and us zero since). We certainly took the wrong fork in the road after the '71 granny.Burkey 1 wrote:I was reading about the curse of the Chicago Cubs and got me thinking has a curse from our past been put on our club, we should've won Flags in 1971, 1997, 2009 and 2010 but things always happened to prevent the win. Re: Cubs Curse
The Saints and Collingwood both had the "bone" pointed at them. Collingwood had an indigenous fellow remove the curse , we did not... So I'm not surprised . I remember reading about it not sure if it was Russell Hombey or in the media. Collingwoods curse was put on after McCallister said if aboriginals behaved like white men we would recruit one, can't remember what ours was about but my failing memory tells me it was about sacking a playerRosco wrote:Collingwood had thatDevilhead wrote:I think there is some story about a curse being placed on the club - something about an indigenous curse?

Re: Cubs Curse
Just found the thread it was from Stinger it's because we refused to let Nicky Winmar play on an indigenous game

years ago an indigenous northern territory guy called john kelly pointed the bone at st kilda and cursed them .....just because the saints refused to let nicky winmar play in a pre season scratch match between a NT aboriginal side and the bummers, i think.........he never lifted the curse as far as i'm aware and we have had continual rotten luck ever since......
...i had a mate who was in the judiciary in NT who knew kelly and although he was a carlton supporter offered to see what it would take to get kelly to lift the curse....unfortunately my mate left the NT shortly thereafter without speaking to kelly....

Re: Cubs Curse
Errrrrr it COULD just have something to do with: easy kicking chances left to go begging in 2009, (coupled with poor coaching decisions) in 2010, we left our run WAY too late, and IF Colondud had kicked straight we'd have been GORN by half time! I dont pay the slightest heed to such poppycock and claptrap as "curses" just another form of excuse-making, victimisation syndrome

Spot on. That jerk Lyon in 2009 screwed us over twice with Ball, both on and off the field.thejiggingsaint wrote:Errrrrr it COULD just have something to do with: easy kicking chances left to go begging in 2009, (coupled with poor coaching decisions) in 2010, we left our run WAY too late, and IF Colondud had kicked straight we'd have been GORN by half time! 2010 GF should've been cooked at half time. Reality was that it was a miracle it became a contest in the final term. I think it was just as much, if not more, the Pies cocking up the last half than us playing much better

Woohoo! Game 7 - tomorrow!!!
Love it when the fall classic goes the full distance. Wow, both Cubs and Tribe fans will hardly be getting a wink of sleep over night. It'll be absolute heartbreak and despair for the loser. The fans of the winners will bear witness to what they've waited to see pretty much their whole lives.
A mouthwatering pitching match up of Hendricks vs Kluber.

Re: Cubs Curse
It has been an amazing series, with the away team winning 4 of the 6 games. Should be a cracking finale. I am tipping the Cubbies get in front and big Aroldis ( who has been awesome the last 2 games ) recording the save and sealing a John Bertrand-like comeback from 3-1 down to win it 4 games to 3.

It's been a fantastic year for the long suffering fan (soccer, MLB and even AFL).
