Re: the 2017 FIXture thread
We need Eddie to back this proposal for Good Friday. Sadly if we are involved it will
be the only rotational special event fixture. Bunch of farking hyprocrits at the AFL if they
do that.

Why? Don't you like rocking up to the office every Monday morning and being lorded over?Con Gorozidis wrote:Obviously as many Friday night games as possible.
In general I am an advocate for Monday night games. Monday is the most depressing day of the week so footy would be great for mental health.
I love the feeling of alienation I get every Monday morning.
Holder of unacceptable views and other thought crimes.

Make Tuesday and Wednesday nights our special slots. Play all our home games in NZ. That way, nobody will watch us. A bit like all those Sunday twilight games.
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

9 at Moorabbin. 4 at VFL Park - one of them on ANZAC Day vs Fitzroy. Friday night game vs North Melbourne at the MCG.

lets celebrate the returning Bombers- hale the heroes????
why would supporters of other teams acknowledge any such thing

I acknowledge that they were a special case this season, however that doesn't mean they should be treated differently to every other team in the comp.saintbrat wrote:lets celebrate the returning Bombers- hale the heroes????

.NORTH Melbourne will play in football’s first Good Friday game.
The Kangaroos, who first approached the AFL with the concept in 1992, will be confirmed as one of the participants in the marquee timeslot when the 2017 fixture is released on Thursday.
Their likely opponent will be the blockbuster-starved Western Bulldogs, who are set to be rewarded for its stunning 2016 season with a place in the stand-alone twilight contest.
Carlton and St Kilda also presented compelling cases to the AFL, with the Saints putting in a joint submission with the Dogs built around a celebration of junior football.
But the AFL will almost certainly announce that it will rotate the two teams involved every year.
Next year’s historic game is expected to be played from 4pm or 4.30pm, most likely at the now AFL-owned Etihad Stadium and integrated into Channel Seven’s Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal

Re: the 2017 FIXture thread
Round 1-- wouldn't you know it a SUNDAY AFTERNOON?
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/m ... 632d5134aa
THINGS TO WATCH IN ROUND 1, 2017
Thursday March 23
Carlton v Richmond, MCG, 7.20pm
The now traditional season kick-off. The Blues have even more GWS faces to add as well as Bryce Gibbs still in navy blue, while the Tigers may unveil Dion Prestia and Josh Caddy. What chances Chris Yarran?
Friday, March 24
Collingwood v Western Bulldogs, MCG, 7.50pm
No unveiling of the premiership flag for the Bulldogs in Round 1, but they’re tipped to give Travis Cloke the chance to take on his former side first-up.
Saturday, March 25
Sydney v Port Adelaide, SCG, approx. 2pm
Tick, tick, tick. This clash with the Power can’t come quick enough for the Swans, eager to put aside the ghosts of October 1.
North Melbourne v West Coast, Etihad Stadium, approx. 4.30pm
Hard to believe Sam Mitchell will be running around in a West Coast jumper for this game, and just as difficult to imagine life after Brent Harvey for the new-look North Melbourne.
Gold Coast v Brisbane Lions, Metricon Stadium, 7.25pm
Pearce Hanley doesn’t have to wait long to come up against his old side and his close mate Tom Rockliff. Brisbane’s new era under Chris Fagan begins.
Essendon v Hawthorn, MCG, 7.25pm
The Bombers’ welcome home party for its suspended stars, including likely new captain Dyson Heppell, will have a prime-time audience. Just as interesting will be Hawthorn - minus Sam Mitchell and Jordan Lewis - with Jaeger O’Meara, Tom Mitchell and Ty Vickery in the frame.
Sunday, March 26
Adelaide v GWS, Adelaide Oval, approx. 1pm
Brett Deledio starts afresh with premiership favourites GWS on the road against Adelaide.
St Kilda v Melbourne, Etihad Stadium, 3.20pm
Highly anticipated match between two likely big improvers. The Saints traded exceptionally well, while the Demons can look forward to having one of the game’s better on-field leaders Jordan Lewis join their ranks.
Fremantle v Geelong, Subiaco, 7.40pm
Two busy clubs in the trade period. Shane Kersten and Joel Hamling might play against their old side, with other new faces at the Dockers including Brad Hill and Cam McCarthy. The Cats lost a few players but brought in Zach Tuohy and Aaron Black.

Re: the 2017 FIXture thread
Gee the AFL do a great job at staying in the news and not letting the A-League, horse racing, cricket and moto gp get a good run at it. After what feels like trade month finished it should be about the draft in November but releasing dribs and drabs keeps them relevant.
Anyway, Melbourne round 1 is like all games a must win. Home game is a good result for membership and momentum

Essendon - drug cheat wooden spooners. Hawks - On the way down.
Saints and Melbourne 2 exciting up and coming teams who will be fighting for the finals.
Ess and hawks get the Saturday night??? While we get sunday twilight??
It'll never change. I think we have to get used to the majority of our games being sunday games. Bad for money but with the new etihad deal maybe itll be ok. Least we get maximum anticipation every week. #brightsideoflife
