Agree, I think the fact that brains has mentioned that he wasn't on our radar until other trades fell through says that this really isn't an ideal signing... Brown will be on plenty of coin and isn't the future.
No doubt we would have preferred Marchbank not least because of his younger age with more games available .
But this signing goes along way toward fixing a long time weakness where we have had medium defenders fighting out of their height and weight division in desperate one on one situations.
These situations invariably resulted in our defender being out marked or penalised for holding.

Gorilla defenders don't have the same problem as gorilla forwards like Gehrig where the defender would become a loose man in the wall while Gehrig was parked in the goal square.
When Gehrig tried to man up he lost his value.
Travis Cloke has the same problem but more, suffering from the kick it Riewoldt disease.
Everyone knows the midfielders were looking for Riewoldt and Cloke who would be swamped by defenders.
Who would then run away with the ball.

Cause we have placed ourselves for a bigfish with our trade strategy, that's obvious for all to see, it's either this week or next year, so who is it? Come On Jax!!!!!
Why you trying to back him into a corner for? As you know things change dramatically in a short period of time...

DO you know who it is?

Not trying to back him into a corner, just know we are setting ourselves for a bigfish, I'm not sure who it is, but Jax says it's not Nat, that's all, if he's in the know he will know/have an idea of whom it may be!!!!!

the fact that we only signed him for two years suggests that your general sentiments here seem somewhat close to accurate...
For now though, he strengthends our squad without any cost to our draft position...

In regards to landing our bigfish, for what it's worth, I think this is what may happen if and only if, the planets align for us:

We will trade out and receive a first round pick, we will then use this pick plus Hawthorns first round pick we received for next year and offload both picks for a bigfish, as I stated, only if the planets align though!!!!!

Trading out may include, Billings and or Hickey/Longer

More fissures open up - http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-trades ... s3eom.html

"Gold Coast entered the mix at the weekend, asking Lewis' manager if the four-time premiership midfielder would move north. The club, currently in negotiations with Hawthorn over star midfielder Jaeger O'Meara, have insisted all along their preference is for experienced players to be involved in an exchange.

The Suns enquiries were immediately rebuffed, after Hawthorn officials said Lewis was too far advanced in talks with Melbourne to be swayed by a move to Queensland."

There is an opportunity in that lot that wasn't so apparent last week.

If the planets align, yes this week, if not, we are set up for next year very well!!!!!!

We have too many on our list and will trade out!!!!!

So, no, not a big call really, of course as everyone says, things can change quickly and planets don't always align!!!!!

I don't understand the fyfe obsession.
Why put all your eggs in one basket?
What if he gets injured and our salary cap structure is then stuffed.

Ahern has torn his right ACL twice in twelve months. Won't play in 2017 and like Freeman is a high risk, high reward selection. Cost them a junk pick and a twelve months wait, but the boy can seriously play. NM need fresh talent, but it looks as though no one wants to go there.

I am happy to get a big fish but not st the expense of Billings or Hickey.

GWS has to reduce their list both in numbers and salary.
His salary will now count against North Melbourne even though he is unlikely to play for most of next year.
His playing future is in serious doubt after doing the same ACL a second time.
GWS could well have cut him if he were not contracted for next year.

GWS will not use pick 69 in the draft, they may use it (only worth 49 pts) as steak knife in a trade.

I think that jaxsons has already said tat other deals by other clubs have to take place before a possible deal by the Saints may be done.

I suspect this is more aimed at getting a top 8 pick in the 2016, rather than a "bigfish" this year.

I would imagine that the main bigfish focus, whether it be more a FA or uncontracted player, will be next year.

However there are a lot of players still in limbo awaiting deals by various clubs and so who knows what may happen.
