Well Richo is never going to say anything bad about one of our players, so really have to take it as, there are better options and a lot of competition for spots.WellardSaint wrote:I think Richo praised Lee in his post-season review.Ross who? wrote:Brisbane were interested in Eli and Lee a month or so ago. Injuries have stalled his development; a lot of posters thought Lee was gone, but maybe there's a spot for him somewhere.
Although, with Nathan Brown coming in, I guess Lee will have to be cut now. Lee did kick 6 goals in that VFL final, but I don't see where he would fit in the forward line,
and Saints need to lose 3 players- I think.
Re: Jaxons come on down
Well as mentioned before what he might mean is that were not actively shopping players around.saynta wrote: My info is that there is interest in Eli but Saints hope to keep him.
However that was before we signed Steele and Stevens became a likely signing.
The deal would have to be worth it though.
A pick lower than 50 or no deal.
Anyway Ameet has stated that the Saints aren't looking to trade anyone out.
Eli looking for opportunity? more like it. Got to remember how many players he's competing against (small forward/mid) How many can you name?
I'd be thinking a young Milne wouldnt even get a game in this side as Richo wants defensive forwards more than a goal sneak and must be able to play in the midfield. Given an opportunity elsewhere it may come back one day and bite us on the arse.
The other thing is either we trade out or delist, no choice, we'll have too many players on our list and have to take more in from the draft.
I doubt we'll want picks late in the draft so we'll either upgrade our picks or not use it.
As much as I enjoy the players coming in, I hate the delistings

Hey Saxons
Congratulations to the recruitment team securing Nathan Brown as a restricted free agent.
Do we know what compensation pick Collingwood will get for him.

I seem to remember something along the lines that if you lost a free agent and then gained one you got no compensation. They canceled out.
That meant clubs would not trade in a free agent if they had lost one to free agency, instead they would trade a pick for that potential free agent.

Re: Jaxons come on down
This Nathan Brown pick up highlights a major problem at Collingwood.
Last year they brought in Adam Treloar and James Aish.
Those guys were in heavy demand so their salaries would have been high to win that bidding war.
Collingwood probably maxed out on their salary cap.
Buckley knows that Eddie's ego demands that Collingwood must go deep into next years finals or Buckley's job and probably coaching career are finished.
Buckley got desperate.
He went hard early in this trade period
He brought in Daniel Wells and Chris Mayne.
The AFLs compensation to North and Fremantle would suggest that has added at least $1 million to Collingwood's salary cap.
Now Dane Swan has retired but their big problem is (Jason = wrong) Travis Cloke's contract.
I suspect the Dogs are willing to provide a new home for the player but not for his contract.
That leaves Collingwood way over the salary cap with players still waiting to have their contracts renewed.
When the Saints went after Nathan Brown, Collingwood could not match the offer.
His loss helps Collingwood on the salary cap front but their backline is falling apart.
The free agency period has expired but if Collingwood is still over their salary cap they are vulnerable to another raid of a player with a big contract.
One such big contract is James Aish.
In his first year at Collingwood he did not live up to expectations or his suspected contract.
It is possible he could be prized lose by a club willing to initially cover his oversized contract.
What do think Sainters should we go after Aish or anyone else of your choosing from Collingwood.

Ameet on SEN now
Talking Nathan Brown signing
Only really came into consideration a week or so ago after a few cards didn't fall our way....read marchbank
What does it mean for fish? Wait till end of trade season...senior rookie? Maybe, wait till end of eeek
Pick 10 trade? Motivation? We improved our over all position. That was main goal 2 second rounders net gain! Tick
Big fish next year? We'd like to (like most clubs) needs to compliment playing list. Hawthorn recent masters. Trade with hawks now gives us a lot of options
Do you have Nat Fyfes number? No
Koby - will get done just waiting on dogs
Rockliff? Not in the business on speculating on trades, but no!

"Brown's departure has placed the Magpies' defensive stocks under pressure, with less than five days remaining in the trade period.
Jack Frost has requested a trade to Brisbane, while Jonathon Marsh has returned to his home state of Western Australia.
The Frost trade may be difficult given the Lions do not currently hold a draft pick between 21 and 78, though one may come in for defender Pearce Hanley should be be traded as expected to Gold Coast."
Brisbane have (according to the AFL website 3 days ago) - 3, 16, 19, 21
GC have - 4, 8, 22, 24. Plus, 6 from the Tigs for Prestia? (not sure about that, don't follow it closely enough - read it or heard it somewhere).
Plus, the 'expected' Hanley trade involves the same 2 clubs.
Another possible opportunity to use last week's positive ledger to deal in on a threesome (minimum)?

Agree, I think the fact that brains has mentioned that he wasn't on our radar until other trades fell through says that this really isn't an ideal signing... Brown will be on plenty of coin and isn't the future.Con Gorozidis wrote:The game has moved on since the gorillas ruled the jungle.

So Jax, you say, no Nat, this year or next, so who is our new big fish then?????
Cause we have placed ourselves for a bigfish with our trade strategy, that's obvious for all to see, it's either this week or next year, so who is it? Come On Jax!!!!!

Re: Jaxons come on down
Surely we're positioning ourselves for next year in terms of luring a 'big fish'?
This season we introduce Steele, Carlisle, Brown, hopefully Freeman and possibly Koby Stevens.
In addition, we'd hope that a Templeton or a Sinclair steps it up and is playing senior footy each week. That's effectively 6-8 new players in the starting 18 already.
I'm not sure there's a need to push too hard this trade period for a 'big fish'.
I'd sit on this lot and see what we need next season in order to take the next step. We have the bait in terms of salary cap and tradeable picks next season.

Re: Jaxons come on down
Stonecold... firstly, if it is next year, doesnt it depend on who is available and willing to move clubs?stonecold wrote:So Jax, you say, no Nat, this year or next, so who is our new big fish then?????
Cause we have placed ourselves for a bigfish with our trade strategy, that's obvious for all to see, it's either this week or next year, so who is it? Come On Jax!!!!!
that takes a long process
secondly, why would someone who really is in the inner sanctum give too much away regarding our trading targets?
thirdly, even bearing this in mind, Jaxons has mentioned we are interested in people like Shiel and Kelly
What more do you want?
