Good get for no draft cost! Hopefully the move reinvigorates his form and career! Surely tommy lee is cooked and probably fisher too, I'd rather keep fisher over lee on the rookie list every day of the week!!

Think we should all just say welcome and wish him the best he's a Saint now and he will do his best.

By all accounts & by his own actions he is a good scholar of the game and a well respected clubman
Maybe he could bring his medal in 4 show & tell - that would break the ice on his first day

This from a source in the club:
"The Brown deal has worked out well for the club; he won't start training for a while;
as he is coming from the Filth, he needs to go into quarantine and be de-loused and disinfected,
just like Johnny Depp's dogs, before coming into contact with normal humans.
But once the Filth is washed out of his system, he will be a valuable key defender for us"

good size at 195cm and 98kg.
I love the effort that Collingwood have put into the news of his departure on their main website. It must have taken them a good two and a half minutes to type this up:
Collingwood defender Nathan Brown has exercised his restricted free agency rights to accept an offer from St Kilda.
Collingwood will not be matching this offer, paving the way for the 2010 premiership player to become a Saint.
Brown played 130 matches across nine seasons in black and white.
All at Collingwood thank Nathan for his service and wish him well.

Another depressed and disgruntled Pies player who will relish a second chance under a positive coach like Richo....first time I can remember 2 genuine key defenders for a long time.
Don't underestimate the effect Buckley has had on morale....look what he did to cloke.

I cant see any big problem with it... we still have just as much ability to draft another potential KPD as we had yesterday
Brown still has 3 good years left in him, long enough for Godard, Coughlan and/or a new draftee to develop. I am sure he will help them out, he has loads of experience and is known to be a very good stopper
I would agree if we had given up a draft pick for him, I would not be excited about that... but for a free hit, it is good trading.
We can keep our upward momentum, and be even more attractive as a destination in Moorabin next year

Re: St Kilda Acquire Nathan Brown
We haven't had much luck with former Collingwood players in the past. Hopefully this guy will be an exception. Potentially he'll be a very serviceable defender. Fantastic pick up for no cost. I'm loving how the club has been dealing over this trade period. The future is starting to look so bright, we all need to be wearing shades!

Re: St Kilda Acquire Nathan Brown
Crikey! Anyone think we aren't in top up mode anymore? Yep we are going for the chocolates - it just got real in here. And seeing as we have gone defcon 1 at a flag tilt, I can see the sense in this. With Goddard not sure when he'll be back, Brown can play on the number 1 gorilla forward (like Hawkins) and that lets Carlisle be more of an attacking weapon from the back with his strong intercept marking.
But lets not pretend there isn't a cost here. Playing Brown comes at the potential cost of the development of Goddard, Coughlan, Lee (if he stays on the list), White, Rice maybe even someone like Roberton who could have stepped up in responsibility but will probably have to defer to Dempster again this year. Plus Brown's kicking from what I've seen is not great. If we have Brown, Dempster, Geary, Gilbert all playing together that's some pretty ordinary kickers in the back half. Puts a lot of strain on Joey, Carlisle, Savage, Webster etc to be able to create play from the back. Teams are very good at isolating the bad kicks to cause turnovers (refer Dawson)
Not sure where White fits in now - might be played on the wing to get him into the team sometimes. I was hoping to see White and Rice both play a bit this year as they are good distributors from the back that we need but that may be delayed.
It's a gutsy move in some ways going for a 27 y.o injury ridden player. I'm still worried we are moving too quick without the necessary skilled talent but if he can pull off a flag this way Richo will be a genius and I will bow down to his wisdom in great humbleness. Interesting times.

Barring injury, I reckon he plays most games in 2017 and is replaced by Goddard in 2018 .

Don't see how he is any better than Delainey.
Also probably means the end for the club all time great Sammy Fisher.

Agreed, Fugazi. Last chance dance for Nate. How many players have had an Indian Summer at a second club? The guy has not lost his ability, just his confidence. Remember the job he did on Roo in 2010. He can play and is a big bodied defender we desperately need. Remember where he's coming from. A gun under shithouse and struggled under the narcissistic egomaniac, Buckley. I think AR will get a couple of decent years out of him. Smart pick up, IMHO.fugazi wrote:Another depressed and disgruntled Pies player who will relish a second chance under a positive coach like Richo....first time I can remember 2 genuine key defenders for a long time.

Con one has played 130 games the other has played 30. He can also hold his own against good forwards and has 2 good years left. I can't see how you can compare Delaney to Brown. They are polar opposites in ability.Con Gorozidis wrote:Don't see how he is any better than Delainey.
