pick 15 from the giants could be ours
ameet bains said we would try to get back into the first round this year. if trade picks 23 and 36 (points value of pick 12) for pick 15 giants.
we would have traded pick 10 and 68 for 15 and possibly better next year great trading by the boys.
i think we will go after someone big next year or try get lachie weller and also have a first round pick. i rather us keep developing our own players than get others on big contracts. cats and hawks orginal sides were all drafted mainly. hope we go down the same path.
go saints!!

Re: pick 15 from the giants could be ours
Supposedly this years draft has picks 1-8 as very good, and picks 9-40 about equal. If that is correct then converting 23+36 into just pick 15 would be going backwards.big_mac_evoy5 wrote:ameet bains said we would try to get back into the first round this year. if trade picks 23 and 36 (points value of pick 12) for pick 15 giants.
this supposedly is one reason why we put pick 10 up for trade in the first place.
If we are going to target first round one would guess that we would want to be in that critical top 8.

Looking at the teams below us with top 8 picks you would think the only team who would be interested in a trade would be GC who has pick 8.saintsRrising wrote:Supposedly this years draft has picks 1-8 as very good, and picks 9-40 about equal. They would probably want a player or maybe next years first pick as they already have a lot of first round picks this year.

Re: pick 15 from the giants could be ours
Would be awesome if we traded 23 and 36 for 15. I am all for it.
Still leaves us with our first rounder in 17.
That would mean in the 2015-17 trade periods:
Carlisle, Freeman, Gresham, Steele, pick 15, pick 9-13 (2017).
Basically 6 first round picks in 3 years. Terrific trading.
As for pick 15 this year - Logue, Venables, Florent, Galluci, Witherden, Bolton will all be thereabouts.
If someone offers us a top 15 pick for Billings - well then we can use that in the draft and also keep pick 23 for Hayward who might be better than Billings int he same position.

If we trade into this year's first round it will be with a 2017 first round pick. I don't see us trading our two 2016 second rounders for one late first rounder, leaving us with only one pick in the first 80 or so (assuming we trade 50 for Stevens). I'd like to see us either directly swap a 2017 first rounder for pick 8 or just hold onto both picks for next year.

OK gottya. So maybe Hawks 2017 first rounder for this years pick 15? Probably fair.mad saint guy wrote:If we trade into this year's first round it will be with a 2017 first round pick. That leaves us with 15, 23 and 36. 36 for Corr. 15 and 23 on kids (Ameet said it was a deep draft). Keep our first rounder for 17.
I like it. I like it a lot! Could get two good players at 15 and 23 this year.

Why would we bother swapping next year's first rounder for pick 15 in an even draft (after pick 8) when the Hawks are heading down?

Sounds like someone will be traded out

Not necessarily.
Hawks offer was a good one and it puts us in a strong position whatever happens from here. We now have options which we didn't have before.

True. But humans are humans and we discount the future a little. They will be tempted to hit the draft with pick 15 right now if they think they can get a good player.SaintPav wrote:Why would we bother swapping next year's first rounder for pick 15 in an even draft (after pick 8) when the Hawks are heading down?
Either way - we have options galore right now. We are in a strong position no matter what. All we have to do is not stuff up our good picks.

Re: pick 15 from the giants could be ours
Brains didn't say Saints WOULD be getting back into the first round of this year's draft.
Brains said something along the lines of 'it gives us the flexibility of possibly being able to get back into the first round of this years draft if something opened up to our advantage.'

Re: pick 15 from the giants could be ours
We need to look at the drafts. Its why points are bs is you aren't an academy club.
Pick 10 2016 is not worth as much as pick 10 2017 due to next years quality.
Also, pick 6 this year is worth more than 6 usually would be worth, due to the quality at that pick. Same way you don't value a teens pick higher than two second rounders if you can throw a blanket over the field from 8-40.
Basically we are in the power position now, we shouldn't give that up just to move into the teens unless its by using just one fringe player and pick.

Re: pick 15 from the giants could be ours
WSe must keep in mind that we have to take at least two kids in the draft if we upgrade a rookie (Holmes). I would prefer that we delist enough players to be able to take three pr four in the draft, but we need better picks than we have now.
