Re: Jaxons come on down
From Moorabbin Ghost on BF
After news filtered through early today to other clubs of our trade with Hawks, we had one club in particular who are gauging the cost of getting their hands on one of our 17 firsts. Depending on what happens with some of their other trades, their situation will demand they trade out some of this years early picks and turn them into next years because of list size issues.
IF this plays out the way I'm hoping then our we will have pulled off one of the greatest trade period heists anybody has seen.
I have never been more excited over a trade than the one today, sitting down and jotting through all the possible moves...we just can't lose.
Fingers crossed guys and girls, by Thursday 2pm we may be saying this week was one of the great moments for our club in regards to list building
If so that would be amazing:
- Hawks paying overs for pick 10 as they were desperate for JOM
- Then GC (I am guessing) paying overs because they cannot use all this years picks (Caveat they may still trade for players, but it may be that they prefer to have something in the bank for Academy Players next year).

Ok but if it's Gold Coast then why didn't they take the hawks 2017 pick direct? Is it because the had no use for 23/36? Maybe. My head hurts

Re: Jaxons come on down
So GC give us 10 back in exchange our 2017 first rounder.
We basically get 23 and 36 for free.
We use 36 on Corr and use 10 and 23 on kids in the draft.
That means Steele, Stevens, Corr, 10, 23.
And we still have a first rounder in 2017 as well.
That would be an unbelievable trade period. 9/10. A+.

Re: Jaxons come on down
You would think hawks 2017 1st plus 23 + 36 would be attractive to GC. But yeah - you might be right. NO use for 23 and 36. They want Bowes and Shiels and maybe one more top tenner.Rosco wrote:Ok but if it's Gold Coast then why didn't they take the hawks 2017 pick direct? Is it because the had no use for 23/36? Maybe. My understanding is they werent considering futures for O'Meara and Prestia they want up front payments of picks while they are high. Better off getting 6&10 instead of gambling on it.

I don't think Fyfe will leave.
if they are considering the offer could we also make a play for Kelly this year?

Either of those two. I lean towards Kelly however Shiel is a bloody nice talent himself.jaxons wrote:Or Dylan Shiel, but I agree.Myron Gaines wrote:I'd give two mid first round picks for Josh Kelly stuff Fyfe

Hopper wants a footy career in Melbourne next year so there's another option. I'd prefer the other two lads though.

Re: Jaxons come on down
I have to agree with you Jaxons- I just can't see Fyfe leaving, and if he does it's unlikely to be us unless we finish top 4 next year or narrowly lose a Prelim. If he leaves, he will chase a flag. The way people on this site work themselves into a lather trying to will a Fyfe deal to happen is just embarrassing.jaxons wrote:Or Dylan Shiel, but I agree.Myron Gaines wrote:I'd give two mid first round picks for Josh Kelly stuff Fyfe

Re: Jaxons come on down
Well whats Fyfe going to cost? 1.2 to 1.5 mil? We can already see how Sydney are struggling to pay their players due to buddy payments. Would we want to go down that path? As much as I'd like Fyfe its one hell of a price tag. Lots of other good players out there that dont cost as much, hopefully we start working on some soon. if we haven't already..

Re: Jaxons come on down
People's obsession with Fyfe this year I don't understand. Better to build a list brick by brick than throwing all your eggs in one basket. And remember, that leg of his could possibly be problematic in the future. I'm happy with us to continue going for players like Steele. Low cost with high reward. You could get four Steels for the price of one Fyfe. We've been down that road of banking all our hopes on just a few players (Lockett, Loewe, Harvey, Burke, for example), without having an overall strong group of players, where everyone is important and no-one is carried by the rest. This has been our failing in the past. We've had successful teams where we've carried players (Robert Eddy, anyone?). The notion that one player will make all the difference is flawed, unless you already have at least 26 or 27 players who are genuinely good players.

I'm not sure why people don't think Fyfe would leave. Player movement is so fluid as it's his chance to set himself up next contract. Judd, Ablett, Dangerfield and Franklin have changed clubs as if Fyfe is a lock to stay

So are Carlton going to be able to offer something GWS want for Marchbank? If not, could we swoop?jaxons wrote:We are not done with trading yet this year.

Pick 23 might get it done..... We could offer it up. At least it forces Carlton to use pick 5Linton Lodger wrote:So are Carlton going to be able to offer something GWS want for Marchbank? If not, could we swoop?jaxons wrote:We are not done with trading yet this year.
23 + hawks first round 2017 for 15 and marchbank.
how do you do!
That leaves us with:
Steele, Marchbank, pick 15, Stevens, pick 36
That would be enormous.

Re: Jaxons come on down
Hey Jaxons why did Hawthorn give us so much for pick 10 & 68.
Pick 23 + Pick 36 + 2017 first rounder
68 is pocket change
23 and 36 are probably worth the same points as Pick 10 once it slips to 12 because of academy queue jumping.
We got their 2017 first rounder for pick 68 !!!!!
Why didn't they offer all three of those to Gold Coast then say trade picks for what you want.
With pick 10 they have significantly reduced their points count.
St Kilda have won out by 900 to 1200 points.

Re: Jaxons come on down
Everyone completely overlooking he's yet to return from a serious leg injury that has significantly impacted the careers' of other players. Wait and see how he performs in 2017 before getting frothy about throwing big $$ at him.Playon wrote:The other thing is he's a Restricted FA not a FA..If Freo were to match our offer, we'd have to trade for him anyway and how much of our cap will it chew into? I think not!!!!!
We can get him next year without trading anything, isn't that smarter?
