Me too. The more I look at it, the more I like it. Essentially gained two second rounders for free. Or gained a first rounder for free. Great result by our guys. Listening to Ameet Bains talking about the deal he also said we now have significant trade currency that we didn't have 24 hours ago and that maybe they'll be able to deal back into this year's first round. Also said that if not, will be very happy to go to next year's draft with two first rounders. Played a dead straight forward defensive shot to the mention of Fyfe.ace wrote:We now have

I still can't believe it, we have gained Hawthorn's 2017 first rounder for free.

Nothing to explain Ace. Saints displayed the perfect predatory behavior. They carefully identified the desperate ones and pounced!!! It is great that the Hawks are at the receiving end..........I still remember the Jake saga from last year.ace wrote:We now have

I'd be happy to shut up shop now and it gives us plenty for next year, so instead of a first and second next year we have 2 firsts and with what we've already added/to add, will see us improve. I can only imagine that Gold Coast refused to consider Hawthorn' first rounder from 2017 because Gold Coast could have had everything Hawthorn has given us instead Gold Coast gets pick 10 only plus players I imagine.
This sounds like Gold Coast have forced Hawthorn to do something stupid.
Is the 2016 draft considered that much better than 2017 ?
This definitely needs an explanation.
COME ON DOWN JAXONS
This is a superb deal for our footy club and everyone should be thrilled.
We have effectively switched our first round pick this year for a first rounder next year and picked up 2 second round picks this year.
This years draft was considered a brilliant Top 8 then very even up to around players ranked 30-40.
We now have 2 picks at this even group instead of 1.
And the way the Hawks are heading in 2017 we should have 2 picks in the top 12 next year in what is already viewed as a great draft.
It's an outstanding result and we have pounced on a desperate Hawthorn who have to close out the O'meara deal.
Everyone should be really proud of our footy club today.
And if we were to attract someone like Fyfe next year as a restricted free agent, we could get him without trading and still have 2 picks in the first round of next years draft.
Exciting times ahead.

If we traded one of our new picks for Rocky he would not be in the leadership group. He would be desperate to earn Richo and the players respect and would want to prove the football world wrong. He would and have a blinder.
Does he have one year left on his contract on good dollars?
If so offer him a two year extension (3 in total) most of the money for next season even if it's more than his existing contract
Could he really be that big a tool?

We take him.
If O'Meara goes to the pre-season draft he can nominate his salary but not more than Hawthorn can afford.
St Kilda should have heaps more salary space than Hawthorn.
We take him at the pre-season.
He plays for us - we gain
He stands out of football - we lose nothing but a place on our list then

Apparently so. If a guy who is a club captain, durable, high quality midfielder in his prime can't attract any interest from other clubs despite being widely touted as a potential trade, then there must be something there that's not right.Goose is king wrote:If we traded one of our new picks for Rocky ..................

Re: Jaxons come on down
Hawthorn now have picks 10, 57, 68 to trade for O'Meara. They can't use any more picks from 2017 having traded their first round pick.
The total present day value of their picks is 1636 points = pick 7
But when you allow 10 to slip to 12 on the day due to academy queue jumping the points are 1509 points that's pick 8.5 which then slips to 10.5 as the draft progresses on the day.
Gold coast should look at that and say "times 2 at least".
That means 2 off "B" grade players from your best 22 please Hawthorn.

Stevens was traded to the Mongrels by Wet Toast for pick 43 in 2012.prwilkinson wrote:36 to Footscray for Stevens? Will they be happy with that?
But probably valued more like 45 as there was a mini draft of 2 off 17 year olds the year before.
So they realy paid 45 for him in an average draft.
He is leaving because he sees himself as surplus to requirement.
He is 4 years older so less playing life in left in him.
Pick 50 this year would be fair value.
Pick 36 means we have been rolled.
No doubt the Mongrels will try for it so we need to take it out of their sight by spending it.

They would be delighted. However Saints will IMO offer no where near that.
They have not offered him a contract. They don't want him for 2017 and so if they delist he becomes a DFA and we get for free (like Membrey or Roberton).
Most likely we will swap fora late pick, ora an exchange of late picks. This allows him to train with earlier than if he is a DFA.
