We must have a player in mind to trade one of the first rounders. Watch this space.

Agree. Theyhave not offered him a contract.dragit wrote:Bugger the dogs, they can have 86 for Koby… no way should we hand over 36… he was traded for pick 44 four years ago and isn't in their best 22.
He goes late pick or walks as a DFA.

Wow, well don Ameet.
Patient and calculating again. He is intent on building a strong list and working to a plan.
Reckon we are ahead on both completed deals so far, and if we give something late for Koby we are 3 from 3.

If we knew what we knew now - 36 probably would have got us Steele....dragit wrote:Bugger the dogs, they can have 86 for Koby… no way should we hand over 36… he was traded for pick 44 four years ago and isn't in their best 22.
Hindsight talking though.
Still happy.

Gives us more of a reason to cheer for anyone playing Hawthorn. Love it. Puts us in box seat for a "big fish"!

Fyfe and Martin are Free Agents next year, don't need draft picks just wads of cash and salary cap space.White Winmar wrote:Like Cripps and Fyfe were in their drafts, both taken in the 20's, Steven at 47, Fisher at 55, etc. etc. It smacks of forward planning to me. Either they're very confident of getting who they've targeted this year at 23, or they are loading up to give us a very strong hand in trading for an established gun next year, e.g Fyfe, Dusty, Rance etc. Me likey!footynut wrote:What the @#*% !!!!!!
A well balanced team with a good spread of talent is great to make finals. However to win finals, especially a grand final you also need the cream of the crop. Players who can change the course of a game and be the difference!!!!

It's a bit like Wright from the Hawks got advice from Dedorio at the Injectors, to learn how to deal favourably with Saints.
Oh When The Saints, Go Marching In, how apt.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Pick 10 +68 traded for Hawks 23 and 36 +first round of 1
so are you saying we were bent over? I dont think so, i think we were extremely clever to take advantage of Hawthorns desperation. We get two 2nd round picks that we can either use in a very even draft year or trade back into the first round plus we now have 2 first round picks for 2017 which is shaping as being a stronger draft pool.Wayne42 wrote:It's a bit like Wright from the Hawks got advice from Dedorio at the Injectors, to learn how to deal favourably with Saints.

Are you nuts? This is a great deal for Saints.
In essence we swap like for like first rounders but get two second rounders as well. Big win for us.

Re: Pick 10 +68 traded for Hawks 23 and 36 +first round of 1
round 4 is useless so if we put Hawks around pick 10 next year its
Out pick 10 2016
In pick 10? 2017, pick 23, pick 36
We robbed them due to their desperation with O'meara. nice payback for interfering with Carlisle
Bulldogs can have our 3rd round for Stevens (about pick 50)

Could the second round picks we've acquired help us get a tall defender from GWS?

This a great deal. Hopefully Lewis leaves and Hawthorn, they don't win the close ones and don't make the eight.
We improve make the eight and look attractive for Fyfe next season. Massively front end a deal and nab him as a free agent
What odds 2018 premiership?

The more you look at it....Hawks are acting like a desperate team.
Spooked Lewis, traded their B and F winner, trading their future away on a bloke with dodgy knees, giving us waaaaay too much for pick 10!

But let's see how he recovers from a busted leg. That injury has cruelled the careers of various others. Matt Maguire is one that comes to mind.

I agree wth is with hawthorn!?!
Mitchell gone lewis wanting out, they are throwon EVERYTHING at a kid who hasnt played in two years and really wil he ever be as good!???
Hartung puopolo shopped ... they cannot be happy
WE MUST HOLD THEIR PICK. Sell ours back OURSELVES IN.
Hawks in 2017.
- best player gone
- hill gone
- lewis maybe gone but defo wont be happy
- vickery tom omeara to upset the balance.
- if hartung goes what run do they have?
- bruest puopolo shopped wont be happy
Hodge is cooked
Been up for so long won many games under a goal.
I see every other team in the comp improving except hawks. Not like the old days look at freo.
Wouldnt surpise to see hawks bottom 4 last year. The gig is up. We could be holding 2017s pick 4 ffs!

Re: Pick 10 +68 traded for Hawks 23 and 36 +first round of 1
So what do 23 & 36 likely become after FA compo and academy selections?
As long as Hawks don't finish top 4 next year we should be clear winners

Future second rounders for Freeman and Steele over the last two years.
Pick 10 and a fourth rounder for two second rounders and next years first rounders.
So basically a fourth rounder for Steele and Freeman?

Unless Clarko recruits Freo retired players as his assistant coaches and steals Ross Lyon's game plan they won't be bottom 4 next year.

How would Hartung, Sicily feel about being shopped about.
Even if Omeara comes good it could take the whole year for it to happen, couldnt care less how good he is in 2018 and on.
Still no forward help (Vickery ain't it)
Coach turnover ? (haven't looked into it)

I'm Wondering if we will still be looking for another mid over a tall defender - be it via GWS or this years' draft ?damienc wrote:Could the second round picks we've acquired help us get a tall defender from GWS?
I found today's trading intriguing to say the least.

Just remains whether it is young'un, or whether it is someone older. Reports on BF had Natahan Brown (FA) at the Saints yesterday.
So in for 2017 at present it is looking like:
*Carlisle
*N Brown or similar
*Steele
*Stevens
and with plenty of picks for kids too. We are travelling well.
