Other picks involved.
Just being anounced on SEN.
The Saints have secured a 2017 first round draft pick and two 2016 second round picks (currently 23 and 36), in an exchange completed with Hawthorn FC late today (pick 10 plus 68)

Ridiculous if true.
NO IFS OR BUTS HARVS IS KING OF THE AFL
Re: Pick 10 rumoured to being traded for Hawks first round o
it kinda makes sense the more i think about it.
pick 50 to the dogs for stevens and that leaves us with 2 second rounders in an even draft and 2 firsts next year.

This whole 'we get someone else's 1st Round Pick next year' thing is a great way to combat tanking, isn't it?

Only thing I can think of why we would do this is 2 first round draft picks next year to offer for Fyfe?

Re: Pick 10 rumoured to being traded for Hawks first round o
We have to do everything we can to help Hawthorn get O'Meara… clearly.
I guess at worst we are looking at something like pick 10 for 20 (2017), 23 & 36.
Let's hope there are no superstars picked between 10-22 this year

Some pundits say draft is even after Pick 8.
so if right we are getting 2 for 1 players this year....with effectively pick 10 back next year.
Looks very good for Saints.

Free agency will be our best bet with no picks involved, just cold, hard, cash.older saint wrote:Only thing I can think of why we would go this is 2 first round draft picks next year to offer for Fyfe?

What the @#*% !!!!!!
A well balanced team with a good spread of talent is great to make finals. However to win finals, especially a grand final you also need the cream of the crop. Players who can change the course of a game and be the difference!!!!

Draft watchers currently saying that 2017 draft is much stronger than 2016 draft. So a good year to have first rounders in for either trade or direct use.older saint wrote:Only thing I can think of why we would do this is 2 first round draft picks next year to offer for Fyfe?

Like Cripps and Fyfe were in their drafts, both taken in the 20's, Steven at 47, Fisher at 55, etc. etc. It smacks of forward planning to me. Either they're very confident of getting who they've targeted this year at 23, or they are loading up to give us a very strong hand in trading for an established gun next year, e.g Fyfe, Dusty, Rance etc. Me likey!footynut wrote:What the @#*% !!!!!!

Re: Pick 10 rumoured to being traded for Hawks first round o
Is it good for us? Well...maybe you need to ask this question; When should the bulk of your teams draft picks realistically be expected to have an impact and help you become a finals threat? I'm happy with what we've brought in so far if our strategy was to go for broke in the next few years. I think we've been rebuilding now for around 3-4 years and next year with a fit and full list we can be competitive. 2018-2020 we should be aiming for a flag
We've turned over a lot players and don't forget we won the wooden spoon in 2014. Looking at the Dogs with the last couple of years and their rise, I'd say their rebuild took 3-5 years of development and patience. Caleb Daniels was picked 2 yrs ago as an early 3rd round, Tom Boyd 2 years ago and Dunkley was last year but the bulk of their team was set up from around 3-5 years ago.

True but as with Dangerfield sometimes a trade can be an option or if say Heeney doesn't get signed out of contract players come into the mixdragit wrote:Free agency will be our best bet with no picks involved, just cold, hard, cash.older saint wrote:Only thing I can think of why we would go this is 2 first round draft picks next year to offer for Fyfe?

Re: Pick 10 +68 traded for Hawks 23 and 36 +first round of 1
So next year, as it stands, we'll have two picks inside the top 12 maybe, no second rounder and a bundle of cash for a FA.
And we get two picks this year. We've turned pick 10 into 3 first /second rounders with 68 as steak knives. Good trading I reckon. Hawthorn need a pick for JOM and we've taken advantage of that.
Interesting to see if we can get Koby Stevens done for pick 50 or if 36 will be required.

Exactly. Massive risk I reckon. Glad we're not going there. Even then, pick 10 alone might not get it done. GC are playing hard ball.suss wrote:They're giving up a lot for a guy on one leg.

Re: Pick 10 +68 traded for Hawks 23 and 36 +first round of 1
We could even swap 23 and 36 for pick 15 (GWS).
Then we have 15 this year.
Next year 2 x top 15 pick at absolute worst. Potential for 2 x top 12 picks.
Well played Saints.

Bugger the dogs, they can have 86 for Koby… no way should we hand over 36… he was traded for pick 44 four years ago and isn't in their best 22.
