STEELE A SAINTER

Jack Steele has just become a St Kilda player.

GWShas received St Kilda’s 2017 future second round pick in exchange for midfielder Jack Steele.

That was always going to happen.

A late pick for stevens and Brown as a free agent and we are all done

It is starting to look like Jolly & Ball all over again.

Collingwood then only had the currency in picks to get one deal done - they chose Jolly ahead of Ball.
That meant the only currency left to Collingwood was players.
But Eddie refused to let any player of quality go.
Eddie was only prepared to let his recruiters offer list cloggers which St kilda refused.
In the end Ball went to the draft, no-one other than Collingwood had been able to talk to or do a medical on Ball so Ball slipped through to pick 30 in the draft.

This time Hawthorn appears to have spent pick 14 that they desperately need for the O'Meara deal on Mitchell mk2.
They will struggle to find enough currency to buy O'Meara.

Even pick 14 and Hawthorn next years first rounder after discounting for academy picks are combined worth a tad over 2000 points.
That's pick 4 if you don't get pushed down by an academy pick. Pick 5 if you do.
O'Meara needs at least another 1000 points that Hawthorn can only get by losing a quality "late first round" player minimum.
But they appear to have spent 1000 points buying Mitchell mk2 with pick 14.
That makes them at least 2000 points short.

But it is only an agreement for pick 14 with Sydney.
Sydney can always renege.
Pick 10 looks better to me than pick 14.
What do you say Sydney ?
Thankyou ?

Deal is done. Both Hawks and Swans will not reneg on it.

No doubt it it just depends on what other deals are done as to what the "steak knives" picks are. But there will e some form of agreement such as a certain points value etc back to the Swans.

Our third and fourth round picks have fallen to picks 50(273pts) and 68(59pts).
Last year picks in this range rose because academy clubs used an array of 2nd and 3rd round picks to get their men.
The AFL has tried to prevent that this time around by limiting the number of picks useable to the number of vacancies.

I expect this will mean that although these picks will rise it will be inconsequential.

So if you combine pick 50 with pick 68 you get 332 points that is pick 46 (where our 3rd round pick started)

Will that combination be enough to get Koby Stevens from the mongrels ?

If so we go into next season with "recruits"
Jake Carlise,
2016 pick 10,
Nathan Freeman
Jack Steele
Koby Stevens
minus 2nd round pick from 2017

Not a bad start to the season

But Hawthorn needs lots of machetes to get O'Meara.
They may not have any steak knives left.
If Hawthorn can't supply those steak knives, Sydney is free to deal for our pick 10.

Hawthorn just sold Sam Mitchell for a swap of 3rd and 4th round picks a whopping 46 points gained (not even worth pick 69).
I don't think that will be enough steak knives for Sydney.

Sam deal was all about freeing up cash. Not the picks.

Tom deal will not be reneged on.

JOM deal may or may not get done, but Tom deal would not be reneged on in order to get JOM deal done. IMO of course. The Swans and Hawks are reasonable traders and Hawks will not leave the Swans in the lurch.

Sam is now definitely gon, and Tom is a direct replacement for his position. Hawks simply could not afford not to land Tom now that Sam is gone. Fall out would be HUGE!

Why do we keep trading future round picks.
I find it frustrating, rather be in the plus, rather than the minus.

The average of a pick even a first round of THAT player becoming a good servicable 10 year player is like 10%
Jack Steele has confirmed he can not only handle AFL footy but shows signs of dominating it soon. To give a second rounder for a GAURANTEED AFL player with potential to be a star is a BARGAIN!!!

Got a feeling that Jack Riewoldt would like to come to the Saints. Not saying it's going to happen but I reckon he's fed up at Richmond.

I disagree - why not grab a player in 2017 and pay for it in 2018 - if we were talking trading away first rounders - I agree with you - but Steele for what should be around pick 40 - 50 next year - give me that any day of the week.

Fox sports journalist Tom Morris put this up on twitter:

The photo clearly shows Hickey and Billings. The cryptic text accompanying it says 'might have to redo this photo now.' The implication being that one of them is up to be traded.

OK I give up
Deal is consumated

Mitchell mk2 plus pick 57
FOR
Pick 14 plus pick 52

64 points between picks 52 and 57
That isn't even steak knives it is worth pick 67
Assuming pick 14 becomes pick 16 on the day (due to academy picks) the 67 points improve that pick by about 1.5.
Hawthorn have effectively traded pick 12.5 (which becomes 14.5 on the day) for Mitchell mk2.

No Hickey in that photo.

Jack Sinclair, Jack Newnes, Jack Billings, Jack Steven and Jack Lonie L to R in the photo.
Now he has to add Jack Steele to the photo.

No sign of a hickey on any of them.
