Re: Jaxons come on down
Makes sense then that we would target him ( if that's what we want) - as a free agent in 2018. Next sedan will show if he comes back ok from injury and levitates the risk for us. I'm presuming it may fit in with one of our older stars retiring if they go over the edgetony74 wrote:Cos he won't be there in 2018.

I'm ok with Mav joining his brother at Freo IF there was a bigger Docker name coming our way...
Don't see it happening but I never saw the Gehrig/Hamill moves either...

Masterson's Power team mate Keenan Hughes to that list, much better athlete and more upside, can also play as a mid or forward, just wasn't tried there much this season. Also keep Battle kickless early in the year!!!!!

Re: Jaxons come on down
Looking at the phantom and admitting to not following this years draft as closely as I could've, I'm really not that keen on anyone below the top 7 or 8 available kids.
McGrath, Taranto, McLugg, SPS, Brodie, Ainsworth - maybe Scrimshaw.
English may go before then but it wouldn't be to us.
So there, 7 or 8 kids, we have pick 10 - we are in trouble if we keep it as we may as well have pick 16 if we don't get into that top 7 or 8.
GWS, rightfully so, don't want anyone from our list apart from maybe our top half a dozen or so untouchables. But obviously we want and will get Steele. From reports they are happy with a second for Steele which is about right.
So how do we get into the top echelon of this years draft? Chances are GWS will have a pick for Marchbank but unfortunately it seems Adelaides pick 13 will move for him. If they worked pick 5 from them then I'd go hard with pick 10, 2017 first for pick 5, Steele and a pick at the start of the second round to draft Rotham with (Dempster replacement).
I know Ameet mentioned 3 in top 30 but I would prefer to go hard for quality this year and those top half dozen are streets ahead of the others this year imo.
Of course things will change if we can package a defender like Tomlinson or Corr with Steele or get a stupidly overs deals like 15, 16 and Steele for 10.
We could also trade with Brisbane or Suns to move up but we are led to believe Armo is off the table.
I hope we are looking at these options if 10 doesn't go on a player.
Or perhaps Freo decide that they think English will be there at pick 10 so choose to give us a 3 pick upgrade to pick 7 for 10 and a player?

Please no to Berry. Logue great athletic traits and fulfils defender role but not at pick 10 what a waste!Con Gorozidis wrote:Callum Twomey's latest edition

Venables, Florent, Logue, Rotham - they are all ok picks for late teens but they aren't worthy of a pick 10 in a strong draft, they are a big tier down from that top group.

A beast, who can intercept but then run off... speed and stamina and at 194 cm can take talls
and looks ready to go!
Why not take him and then look for outside run later? (seems to be our other priority, after getting Steele and seemingly Stevens)
I know... our recruiters will have dont their homework and I have not a fraction of their knowledge.. just speaking BS really...
anyway, it will be interesting to see !

Re: Jaxons come on down
I've heard Griffin Logue's name thrown around a fair bit... He's basically a ready made straight out of the packet AFL key position defender. And athletically he's looks pretty amazing...Con Gorozidis wrote:Callum Twomey's latest edition

The West Australian key defender was a star at the combine, recording a 9:58 minute 3km time trial and being the equal winner of the beep test. He matched the endurance efforts with being top-10 in the repeat sprints and taking out one of the running vertical jumps. The weekend at Etihad Stadium proved what many had seen coming for a little while: that Logue is one of the most bankable big defenders in the pool. He could play straight away, such is his body size, maturity and athletic profile. Logue is a good intercept marker and helps out teammates, too.

Irrelavent of course.. except then again, maybe it helps against the go-home factor which IMO sets in early (e.g. before Gibbs was ever drafted).. if he is excited to come to the saints.. bring it on!
Re: Jaxons come on down
Kieran Collins was a ready made man mountain last year and played maybe 1 game this year. A lot more to it than just having athletic traits and being physically developed. Drafting is playing a long game.

Re: Jaxons come on down
What is wrong with Berry? Was injured this season. Dominated draft camp. Was a potential top 3.St Ick wrote:Please no to Berry. Logue great athletic traits and fulfils defender role but not at pick 10 what a waste!Con Gorozidis wrote:Callum Twomey's latest edition

From North Ballarat Rebels/Vic Country
It was a good week for Berry at the combine. He was a joint winner of the beep test (level 15.1) and claimed the 3km time trial outright (9:46 minutes), and also placed in the top-10 for repeat sprints, agility, clean hands and kicking tests. It reminded everyone of his exceptional athletic qualities and how he can perform when fit after an injury-ravaged year. At 191cm, Berry can move into different areas of the ground but in time sees himself in a midfield role. His leadership qualities stand out.
