Welcome to SS. Thanks Carl.CarlTaughtMeEnglish wrote:Just spit balling trying to tie things together...
Saints are into Stevens from Dogs
Freo are into Hamling from Dogs
We have the family connection suggestion for Weller from Freo
Saints have picks 10, 49, 67 ...
Freo have 7, 34, 42, 60 ....
Dogs have 18, 39, 62 ...
Trying to do the math
Stevens is worth a pick 45 - 55
Hamling is worth a pick 35 - 45 (kept Buddy quiet in the grand final but WA go home factor)
Weller is worth a pick 10 - 25
Throwing some saints names around
Billy Longer - 35 - 45
Tom Lee 45 - 55
Mystery Player 35 - 45 (top 25ish on list)
This is where the spit balling comes in...
Freo loose Weller and gain Tom, Hamley and future round 2 pick (~39) (Both big bodied WA boys boys)
Dogs loose Stevens and Hamley and gain Billy and Saints mystery player (Billy would be an upgrade on Minson not sure who else they might need but it has to be someone for this to work)
Saints loose Billy, Tom, future round 2 pick and Mystery Player but gain Weller and Stevens
Jaxons come on down

Re: Jaxons come on down
I think recruiting Koby may help with Dunstans development. I've always felt that having to play Dunstan as the defensive mid providing most of the blocking and clearing a path for Jack Steven has hampered Dunstans own development. Think Koby will compliment Steel.
AR has stated that Dunstan needs to work on his outside run next season. Koby will give him that relief . Don't have any issue with building a bit more depth. I expect we won't be paying overs for him, as stated by others Tom Boyd's contract and the GF bonuses will be pinching the dogs for the next couple of seasons

my guess based on nothing but my own BS:jonesy wrote:Dogs would nearly give him to us or for a very late pick yeah?jaxons wrote:Can tell you we are getting close to getting Koby Stevens.
Stevens + 39 for
Longer +49
i.e. we upgrade form 49 to 39
Dogs get a Minson replacement
I guess this wont be popular with people expecting more for Billy... maybe that is so... no idea what he is now worth after playing a year in the magoo's.. maybe we would only need to lose 67 rather than 49... s out Longer+67, in Stevens +39... that would leave us with 39 and 49 which is more likely to get us something

I wouldn't mind getting Koby Stevens.
We'll be a tough contested ball machine team with Armitage, Weller, Steele, K Stevens and these other guys to add to the mix: McKenzie, Ross, Dunstan, Geary, Newnes.

The Dogs reportedly have not offered him a contract. If so he is a late pick or DFA.

Would rather keep Longer than do this trade.SuperDuper wrote:my guess based on nothing but my own BS:jonesy wrote:Dogs would nearly give him to us or for a very late pick yeah?jaxons wrote:Can tell you we are getting close to getting Koby Stevens.

Re: Jaxons come on down
I had forgotten about Tory Dickson and Weller.
So Koby Stevens is up against Dickson and Clay Smith at the Dogs. Both very good players.
At the Saints he will be up against Billings and Weller.
If I were Stevens I would probably move to the Bombers where he will actually get senior games....
I still reckon he can play though. For a late pick-up hed be a good addition to a list.

Re: Jaxons come on down
So possibility (not probability is)
Pick 10 (will be 11 or 12) + lower ranked player to Sydney for Mitchell and $600k p/a
Pick 28 (will be 30 or 31) used already on Freeman
Pick 46 (will be 48 or 49) for Jack Steele
Delisted free agent or last pick for Koby Stevens
Free agent or delisted free agent KPD or keep Fisher 1 more year and see how others develop
Midfield with Mitchell, Steele, Stevens and a fit and firing Freeman added would be a huge boost.

Re: Jaxons come on down
We are going to have to build an elite midfield to contest, let alone win our next premiership- step one. The pressure will really be on our current crop of midfielders to work on stepping up their game over the preseason, and that's a good thing.

Is there a minimum number of picks we have to take to the draft(s)?BackFromUSA wrote:So possibility (not probability is)

Re: Jaxons come on down
Swans accept pick 14 for Mitchell yet Carlton want more than pick 13 AND Lyon for Gibbs!!?
Considering he's 28 and has underperformed for most of his career, I'd nearly take Lyon by himself over Gibbs..

Re: Jaxons come on down
Hawthorn just get things done don't they? Give to get.
Great trade by them and smart decision with Sam Mitchell too.
Koby Stevens ? Don't get this at all....just adding to an already large contingent of 'quite good' midfielders.
Sure he'll play well and give depth...but where is the elite work going to come from?
At some point we have to go for elite talent. Hawthorn know what it takes to go from contender to winner.

What if the 're-uniting families' bit is more to do with the family than the player. For a random example, re-uniting the Sloane and Dunstan families?
