Re: Jaxons come on down
I've heard this, too Br. Wouldn't mind if we did, a certain elite midfielder as opposed to a prospective elite midfielder at pick 10. Do it, I say and we can f@$k hawthorn at the same time and send them to the bottom sooner. Win, win, IMHO.bigred wrote:Any truth to the rumour that we offered up pick 10 for Mitchell?
Just to make life difficult for Hawthorn after their late crack at Carlisle last year that made us use pick 5?
EDIT...NVM...already being discussed.
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

What do you think Dean Towers would cost?
If we could net him for a third round pick I'd take that in a heart beat. Tall athletic wingman who can hit the scoreboard....

Look at his trend in averages. Ready for a big 2017 imo.

would be very handy and solves the 3rd KPD defender issue.dragit wrote:Surely we'd be having a look at Darcy Gardiner as young key back? Out of contract also.

Re: Jaxons come on down
Yes sure I understand what you're saying. Yep they were picked in a prelim side, in the same way Gram, Schneider, Dempster, Ray, King and Gardiner played in our 2009 GF side after being mature recruits from other clubs.dragit wrote: Now you are arguing about completely different things, I'm not talking about those players being top ten on their list… but they were in their 22 picked after finishing 2nd and playing a prelim.
I'm not suggesting that those players would be good for our list either, but they have picked the right players to fill needs on their list and I think a top 4 finish is a pretty impressive return when I thought they were on the way down too.
It will be interesting to see how they look with Deledio & Tuohy in the mix, both guns IMO. I would rather those two over Koby Stevens & Nathan Brown FWIW.
Add Deledio and Tuohy and their midfield will still be strong, although I wonder about recruiting Deledio, will turn 30 at the start of next season. Agree with you about Stevens and Brown........regarding those two......meh.....

GWS just finalised McCarthy deal. Was probably a priority for them as opposed to Steele.Burkey 1 wrote:What is holding up Steele trade, Why do our trades always take forever Lol.

Re: Jaxons come on down
Freo just downgraded their pick 3 for McCarthy, 7, 34 and 72.
One of SPS and English will be there at 7, but they could also be there at 10.
Now is the time to go for gold! Propose this trade:
Pick 10, 2017 first and Tom Lee... for...
L Weller, pick 7, potentially a steak knives pick from Freo.
Lets get it done and walk away from the draft with Taranto, whilst adding Steele and Weller!
Actually whilst I'm on the delusional train, how about we grab Lamb as a DFA and trade Eli and our 3rd for Darcy Gardiner.
With the severe lack of any news or inside info this is about as good as its gonna get today.

Re: Jaxons come on down
Doesn't it almost guarantee they can pick up a 'non-academy' player before they might be forced to use an early first round DP?fugazi wrote:crazy deal for GWS, must be regretting not dealing last year
basically Cam McCarthy was the steak Knives
McCarthy was already 'gone' so they have upgraded Pick 7 to Pick 3 and thrown in some later picks they weren't probably going to use.

Sam Landsberger
@SamLandsberger
Fremantle receives picks 7, 33, 71 = 2236 draft pts + Cameron McCarthy
GWS receives pick 3 = 2234 draft pts
Well played, Dockers
I guess the thing is about fire sales, if you leave it too long trying to get a bargain, sometimes you miss out.
McCarthy was free. If were moving on more gws players, I hope we dont leave it too long or it may cost us more. Their salary cap and extra players seems to be sorting out pretty quickly.

Great deal by the Dockers. Even if McCarthy never plays a game they are probably in front.Playon wrote:Sam Landsberger

Re: Jaxons come on down
Our pick 10 to the cats for Cam Guthrie and Cats pick 37
Cats trade pick ten for Deledio
Pick 37 to Crows for Lyons
Pick 50 to GWS for Steele
That brings
Gutherie (24yrs old) Quick outside mid good inside as well I think this guy can really play and suffered from Dangerfield being the in the team this year
from the following article in 2015 https://goo.gl/FEayHb
He is enjoying arguably a career-best season this year with an average of 20 disposals, nine contested possessions and five tackles per game.
In 2015, Guthrie is ranked fourth at Geelong for tackles, clearances and contested possessions and fifth for disposals.
This definitely dropped off in 2016 and he will know it.
Lyon (24yrs old) beast inside player would be excellent for depth and as a number 4-5 midfielder
Steele (20yrs old) very good (if not elite) player all over the ground

Re: Jaxons come on down
I dont believe were trying to get 3 inside 30 picks or I can't see why we wouldn't of made a move by now on Steele. There has to be something else in the pipe-works besides a cheap defender (FA or low pick) Surely were not just sitting back and waiting for someone to make us an offer on some of our players, so who we might be considering I have no idea.Burkey 1 wrote:What is holding up Steele trade, Why do our trades always take forever Lol.
The rumours to date for midfielders were supposed to of been looking at have all been meh who cares. ( apart from Steele:) )

GWS just upgraded pick 7 to 3 and lost nothing in the process, due to the abundance of picks they have and will have, and McCarthy has some issues.
Re: Jaxons come on down
Perhaps, but back in his home state may find all his problems gone. In hindsight GWS should of traded last year.jaxons wrote:Don't be certain about this either.Playon wrote:

And in the end theres no guarantees that the pick 3 player will be better than the pick 7.
In comparison who do you rate as better Billings or Gresham?
Time Will tell I guess but gws have one less player

Re: Jaxons come on down
That is a good deal for Freo so far but they will probably waste pick 7 on English which would be silly given they used 17 on Apeness.

Re: Jaxons come on down
I don't mind that - assuming he is worth pick 49 or thereabouts. I quite like him as a player. A good back up for Billings and Membrey. Especially given both of them are uncontracted at the end of 2017. If we get him for pick 67 then who cares.jaxons wrote:Can tell you we are getting close to getting Koby Stevens.
