Koby Stevens
Apparently we're into him. Not sure the point in going after a fringe player of a premiership team?

Re: Koby Stevens
Better than going for a fringe player of a bottom side i guess. Bruce , Members , Steele could be said to be fringe. Sometimes all players need is a new environment and or different roles to reinvent themselves ...worth a look i reckon.

Can't say I'm jumping for joy but he has me on the fence a bit.
Rumoured $450k per year, no idea if it's even close to the mark but would think that's very generous of us if true.
I've seen him play some really good games of footy, but I'm not convinced he is the type we need or should be chasing especially after we jag Steele.

Re: Koby Stevens
Fringe players can be fine if you can see some potential for significant improvement, but Koby is approaching 26… he's in his prime which is just a bit average.
If we spend 450K PA on this guy we are pretty stupid.
He's not a bad footballer, plays the odd great game, then is very quiet for a few weeks - a bit like Mav IMO.
The dogs who were decimated by injuries, and Stevens could only manage 12 games.
He would just be taking games away from guys we need to get experience into.

I wonder how many players are third club players to become Premiership Players?chook23 wrote:A difference this time it will be his third clubfelix wrote:Better than going for a fringe player of a bottom side i guess. Guerra and Leigh Brown are two that come to mind.
Jolly was a 3 club player two but gained premierships at two of them and so was good before he joined his third.

Not keen. Would rather we got Tom from Brisbane. At least he is an improvement on what we have.

Re: Koby Stevens
His handball to kick ratio is about 2:1 -- which suggests he is not a playmaker but generally likes to handball it to someone who is.
He's been averaging the same numbers as Newnes, which sounds good -- about 22-23 possessions per match --- but the difference is Newnes kicks it 2/3rds of the time.
Steele sounds like a better prospect with more upside ---as he's been largely playing as a forward. Might become a gun midfielder for us?

We already have to delist two more players, three if we sign Steele. Who do you want to delist to sign Koby Stevens?samoht wrote:His handball to kick ratio is about 2:1 -- which suggests he is not a playmaker but generally likes to handball it to someone who is.

We need to get an elite midfielder and develop the B+ players we already have into A graders.

Re: Koby Stevens
I'll declare myself an additivist at this point (just looking purely at additions to our list)... as opposed to a pragmatic subtractivist (trimming down to accommodate additions) and just shrug my shoulders. I don't want to point anyone out -- but obviously decisions have to be made and a few have already been discussed here.saynta wrote: We already have to delist two more players, three if we sign Steele. We need to strike the right balance ... you can have an elite midfield but you can still get the mix and balance wrong. You can't just have elite inside midfielders, for instance.... you need to balance this up with speed and outside run as well.

No. Just no. GOP. Nothing more. Need a couple of elites.

We need an elite and balanced midfield... with the right balance of inside ferocity and damaging outside run. I hope we're aiming for the right balance.White Winmar wrote:No. Just no. GOP. Nothing more. Need a couple of elites.

Agree but doesnt it depend on what we have to pay?
Stevens is better than Brodie Murdoch so from an overall list perspective it is a net gain provided he comes cheap.
What if Membrey and Billings both got injured?
Obviously we need a couple of elites but that is why we are after Jack Steele AND pick 10 in the draft.

I think we've already got all the pieces for a gun midfield. Just need some cream on the top. Lachie Weller and Jack Steele, along with an up and about Freeman does the job. Stevens is ok, but not what we need ATM.samoht wrote:We need an elite and balanced midfield... with the right balance of inside ferocity and damaging outside run. Re: Koby Stevens
We would already most likely de-list Brodie Murdoch and one other (probably from Eli or Shenton) to make way for 3 draftees and Steele.Con Gorozidis wrote:White Winmar wrote:No. Just no. GOP. Nothing more. Need a couple of elites.

To make room for Koby Stevens or anyone else, we are having to de-list or trade a good player. (e.g. Sinclair, Lonie or Longer)

I'm undecided on if I'd like him at the saints but to be fair, when the dogs were decimated by injuries, he was one of those players. He missed 6 games through injury.
After looking at his stats, he really does get a fair bit of it but like someone else said, the kick/hb ratio is way off..
Interesting times.
Unlike many other teams, at least we don't have players lining up to leave the place.. So many teams are just falling apart..

Average player. Need much more than that

Re: Koby Stevens
Agree. Stevens a GOP. Next year perhaps some elite midfield cream through FA, what we currently have and another top ten pick this year. If Steele turns out well and Freeman comes good (big IF) we'll be starting to develop good depth.White Winmar wrote:I think we've already got all the pieces for a gun midfield. Re: Koby Stevens
Be a waste of money, dont see what spot he would take in the side. Just let him go to the dons and target someone genuinely useful for the side.

Well in terms of mids for 2017, the target pool is really shrinking. JOM and Mitchell to Hawks. Rocky with another off-field misdeamenour.Wombat15 wrote:Be a waste of money, dont see what spot he would take in the side. Just let him go to the dons and target someone genuinely useful for the side.
I am not against Stevens if he is a third rounder, or lower.
I would have love to have gained Mitchell though.
