Nat Fyfe What will it take
Ok so they might just be rumours but worth a discussion. What would it take to get Fyfe to the saints? Jaxons was quick to refute the speculation but ofcourse he would, important to douse the flames on what would be the biggest trade since C. Judd.....Considering he is a FA in 2018 the Dockers need to off load him if they think he will be out in 12 months time....
The rumour 1.5million a year for 5 years....as well as the captaincy.
Worth every cent IMO but what do we need to give up...? Will pick 10 and Billings get it done? Or first round this year and next as well as Billings?
Some little pieces of the puzzle...all in good fun but worth a look
Roberton and Fyfe were great mates in 2011 both picked up by the dockers in 2009 draft

Re: Nat Fyfe What will it take
If you could get him for nothing in a years time, why would you give a 10+ year player in Billings, and a potential good player with pick ten let alone anther potential good player next year. To have great player 12 months earlier in a year where we won't be threatening anyway.

Re: Nat Fyfe What will it take
if we were to land Fyfe we would very much be a threat next year...i think pick 10 and Billings gets it done...Billings is no guarantee...neither is pick 10..Fyfe on the other hand...generational player.ausfatcat wrote:If you could get him for nothing in a years time, why would you give a 10+ year player in Billings, and a potential good player with pick ten let alone anther potential good player next year. Trading for him this year means we get him....no one else
It would mean just as much off field as on to land Fyfe...

not trading the future at all.......we lose 1 potentially good player and pick 10 (Tom Lee was pick 12) for a star....the Fyfe trade gets us very close to that cup....especially with Roo still on the parkausfatcat wrote:selling for your future for 12 months?

Wasn't the reason he didn't get the captaincy at Freo because he was at odds with the other players???
Great player but he shouldn't just waltz in and get the captaincy as part of his contract, let him earn it otherwise it could unsettle what has become a tight knit group.

agree with this....if he comes without wanting to be captain it would work better...Judd did it thought I thinksaintbob wrote:The Recruit wrote:Ok so they might just be rumours but worth a discussion. Re: Nat Fyfe What will it take
The senior players will be fine - they put up with bj for long enough
The younger players will be fine - they're used to Roo demanding perfection
In all seriousness, I think with such a giant of the game and such a resoected figure as Roo being by his side it'll work out fine...if we can get it done. I'm sure Fyfe will have learnt from the Freo experience and if we do manage to pull this off the guy will be on a mission and if you don't want to get on board for the ride as a player, then there's something wrong with you

Mr Recruit.....sorry to burst your bubble but your opinion is completely uninformed and way off any semblance of reality. The Recruit wrote:i think pick 10 and Billings gets it done......ausfatcat wrote:If you could get him for nothing in a years time, why would you give a 10+ year player in Billings, and a potential good player with pick ten let alone anther potential good player next year. Billings and 10 does not come close to getting it done.
Not even a little bit close.

heartbreaker! I did preface my post with 'a bit of fun' and worth a discussion.......so yes it is uninformed ....I did float maybe this year first round and next as well as billings...you yourself said Ross would take this...
but what about the looming 2018 free agent issue? The Dockers don't hold all the cards?

Re: Nat Fyfe What will it take
geez if we could get him for billings and pick 10 every saints coach and recruiter would be busting a gut to make it happen.ausfatcat wrote:If you could get him for nothing in a years time, why would you give a 10+ year player in Billings, and a potential good player with pick ten let alone anther potential good player next year. not a chance - cost way more than that. fyfe dominates like ablett before him and danger after him, only does more with it than danger. the best player in the afl - one season out and we forget?
edit - jaxons already said as much.

Re: Nat Fyfe What will it take
According to Barrett (ie. Trade Whisperer) last week, GWS have put an offer on the table of Patton, Pick 7 & Pick 31, with a late pick for some academy points coming back the other way. So if nothing else, they've set the bar pretty high.
So Billings & Patton are comparable, Pick 7 and Pick 10 are thereabouts, we'd have to stump up a mid-2nd rounder (probably 2017's pick) to be in the ball park.
That means that any other deals are pretty much dead in the water - no Steele, no Corr, no MacKenzie, no Weller, or anybody else we've dreamed about over that last 6 weeks.
I think the only way this happens is if we convince Fyfe we are the place to be, and he digs his heels in. He tells Freo he is 100% leaving as a free agent next year, and if they want more than a single first round pick, they should trade him this year, and only to St Kilda.
If GWS can really fit $1.5M a year into their cap on top of their current list, then we might as well all give up for the next decade.
I think we could offer $3M in the first year (utilising our our saved up cap space) and $1M per year after that (giving Fyfe $7M over 5 years) without completely breaking the bank.

Re: Nat Fyfe What will it take
Why can't we concentrate on recruiting the next Johannison - who was no.39 in the rookie draft? We need more run and carry and another midfielder/line-breaker or two - Fyfe is not that player. Has he fully recovered from that horrendous injury of his?
We don't need highly-paid Prima donnas - especially ones that have suffered major injuries - it might also encourage some of our own to seek greener pastures too.
Recruiters earn your keep . If you can't find the next line-breaking midfielder with pick 10in the draft when the Bulldogs found a norm smith medallist with pick 39 in the rookie draft - what good are you?

Re: Nat Fyfe What will it take
If Billings and 10 doesn't get it done, then it is a MASSIVE no for me at this stage. Try to get him as a FA next year. Would be an enormous gamble to give up two top 10 picks for one player. Billings could be about to explode, had 20 possessions ave last year, if he can get that up to 25+ next year he'll be awesome.
If GWS want to sell the farm for him then it may be to their detriment. And that helps us.

Re: Nat Fyfe What will it take
Pick him up as an FA next year
Do not trade out Acres or Billings....they will become excellent players...Billings has sublime skills off both sides...that is rare.
Get McKenzie and Steele and a gun with pick 10 and job done for 2016
One of Sinclair or Lonie or Longer is tradable otherwise keep this list together

Re: Nat Fyfe What will it take
I'd take a good, young, line-breaking midfielder who won't cost the earth and who hasn't suffered a horrendous injury over Fyfe anyday!
Fyfe is not a line- breaker - he's a potential bank and team morale breaker.
How well did Nathan Brown come back from his leg injury?
