Tom Rehn: Dusty and the Crows have definitely been talking
https://www.sen.com.au/news/2016/09/21/ ... n-talking/
Dustin Martin’s management have unquestionably been in dialogue with other clubs says Tom Rehn, and believes Adelaide are showing a lot of interest in the star midfielder.
SEN’s Adelaide correspondent says that while he believes the move is unlikely to happen, the Crows consider Martin the perfect solution to their midfield problems.
“I’ve spoken to a couple of people close to the Crows and Martin’s camp and there’s definitely been some dialogue,” Rehn said on SEN Breakfast.
“I think there have been a number of clubs, my understanding is as many as half a dozen. He’s one of the most marketable and prized recruits going around and he’s still got a year to run on his contract as you know but there is absolutely a lot of interest coming from the Crows.
“On the weekend I think they were exposed in their midfield, they were bashed up…he’s seen as the kind of guy that would fit in there brilliantly.
“Is it going to happen? Look, very unlikely but there’s no question the Crows are interested and willing to have a chat.”
Tim Watson says that Adelaide may instead be working towards recruiting the 2016 Jack Dyer Medallist next season under free agency instead of chasing him this year.
etc etc

I'm not asking for a star or anything as of now but the players we have gone after are rejecting us despite having a very solid season to suggest we have a bright future and of course a lot of money to offer them. I just don't understand y players like marchbank want to go to a club like Carlton when we look more promising as a club and can offer him more?
Football like many other businesses are relationship driven.
SOS recruited him to the club initially so you can imagine the family bond and trust already created.
Laverde has been an Essendon boy his whole life so was going to take a lot to get him out.
We never made Hurley an offer.
And Jaeger we cooled on for the risk factor.
He was very keen on Saints at one point.
Who else are we missing out on?
Tough call

We are after mids with speed and class.Thesaint127 wrote:Also jaxons why didn't we chase tom Mitchell more aggressively. a tough midfielder who finds plenty of the ball and is young who wants to come back to vic. Appreciate it sparky, the saint
Mitchell is a similar type to Dunstan, Ross and Armitage who are all inside mids.
Looking for types like Isaac Smith, Gaff etc who can break a line and run and carry.
Draft is good this year and we will get a very good player at pick 11.
I'm sure everyone is thrilled with Gresham and I promise Brandon White will be very good too.
We still need to be bringing quality youth into the club.

We were well aware of what he wanted money wise and what Essendon wanted in return in terms of trade but no offer was formally made.

Re: Jaxons come on down
Thanks Jaxons its nice to hear that we are targetting that type of player. As if as predicted we bring in Jack Steele we will desparately need to add some line breaking and outside speed to our mdifield.jaxons wrote:We are after mids with speed and class.Thesaint127 wrote:Also jaxons why didn't we chase tom Mitchell more aggressively. a tough midfielder who finds plenty of the ball and is young who wants to come back to vic. 1. We were interested in Hurley but we did not make him a formal offer
2. We were disappointed in Laverde but not surprised.
3. We were very disappointed in Marchbak.
4. There is no ' big name player ' we are after this year
5. Keep listening to Mr.Jaxons.

A ballpark of understanding salary expectations from both parties is very different to a formal offer.stonecold wrote:No formal offer, no, are you sure a ballpark offer wasn't made though Jax?????

No formal offer was made but there was a small period of time when both parties looked at each other very seriously.

Won't comment on point 5 however the first 3 of these points are accurate with a strong emphasis on point 3 as he was the one we really wanted.
Point 4 is more than likely to prove correct for this trade period as we sit here today, however this can change quickly!
Hard to say more on this without sending everyone into a frenzy of possibilities!
But everyday the goalposts move!

Re: Jaxons come on down
Jack Steele would have to be a lock to join St.Kilda surely?
Jaxons also whats St.Kilda's chances on other players, including Eric MacKenzie espeically after missing out on Marchbank. Also what about Darcy Gardiner, Hamish Hartlett, Mitch Brown, Morabito etc? any others?

Re: Jaxons come on down
Jaxons, who do you like in the draft at pick 10? Ben Ainsworth is the kid I desperately want. He's a tough nut that has brilliant hands, great goal sense & the potential to run through the midfield. He's a Robbie Gray type. The only issue is he will be strongly considered earlier on in the draft than our first selection. I hope we get some luck & land him.

Re: Jaxons come on down
Tony things can change daily, I'd be interested into what you call dribble?tony74 wrote:P.S. I know I'm not telling you anything new but some of the dribble that comes on here .......honestly!!!
But I will leave you with some of Jax's quotes, remember not all of us have privileged info.
We are desperate for another backman as well and are keen on a recent b & f winner from one of the teams in the finals who was left out of his side this round.
And MC Gusto no re Laverde, we prefer WH-E from Giants for that type
Before anyone gets too excited, I will preface this by saying as I have said before, lots of chatter takes place and many things don't come to fruition.
However talks are strong that could very well see families come together at the Saints.
You can fill in the blanks and I won't confirm or deny anything.
You are on the money Stoner!
Definitely something big brewing but as I have said the goalposts are constantly moving.
Look no further than the last 48 hours

Re: Jaxons come on down
President, please desist from the ongoing baiting of Stonecold. It's going on across multiple threads. It's clear where you stand. Fair enough to say what you think, but you're just taking any opportunity to take a shot at Stonecold.
Enough.
Stonecold, please desist from participating in the slanging match.
Not interested in who started it or, " He said that, so I said......."
If you continue it will be classified as an ongoing dispute which gives the mods more options in managing it.
First and last notice.
The name of the game is to stop the bickering and personal jibes.
Thanks guys.

MG from BF
A fair bit has changed of late, I'd be surprised if Longer is a Saint after trade period. He has interest from multiple teams, if they offer up a reasonable pick/trade then we will deal in my opinion.
I still really rate Billy's talent so we'd better come out of it nicely if we let him go
Message 2
Clubs much prefer buying rucks to drafting them. Billy has had four teams genuinely interested, but I don't see how one of those can possibly satisfy us in a trade after recent developments.
I think it's a lot more likely than unlikely that he goes.
Message 3
Have a look at the last 5 years of rucks being traded, their worth is inflated because of the time needed to develop them.
We'd need a decent deal to get rid of him. A very good young mid or to get another pick in first round.
