A Must Watch ..Documentary on 2010 Grand Final Ch 7
My wife alerted this to me ....Was reported in The Herald Pictorial but as usual couldn't get into the link
Here it is anyway " Collingwood president Eddie McGuire launched tirade at Stephen Conroy during drawn AFL Grand Final | Herald Sun"
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/collin ... 520d397392
Chanel 7 Sunday 25th @ 10pm ...the Film maker spent many hours interviewing players and coaches from both sides (though I think was a bit biassed towards the eventual losers) :
"2010s Grand Final is etched into footy folklore as the most dramatic ending in AFL history. This compelling documentary revisits the raw emotions of players and coaches as well as tragic fanatics "
I've already stet up to record..!!!!

EDDIE McGuire launched a foul-mouthed tirade at Senator Stephen Conroy as the atmosphere reached boiling point during 2010’s excruciating Grand Final draw between Collingwood and St Kilda.
A documentary has revealed what went on behind the scenes of one of the most controversial AFL showdowns in history.
The Collingwood president is among a string of club names, including former coaches Mick Malthouse and St Kilda’s Ross Lyon, featured in the tell-all film from director Peter Dickson.
In the film to be aired next Sunday on Channel Seven, McGuire admitted telling Senator Conroy to “shut the f--- up’’ after the politician suggested the Magpies were home and hosed.
“We went in at half time and senator Stephen Conroy came up to me and he said, ‘we’ve won, we’re home, we’re home’.
“I went off my head,’’ McGuire said.
“This is the ghost of every shambles of a Grand Final we have ever had.
“I said to him: ‘Senator, shut the f--- up’.’’
The film also reveals the psychological and emotional impact on players during the game and in the years since.
Former St Kilda small forward Stephen Milne admitted to constantly reliving the final two minutes.
He had been in the forward pocket and couldn’t quite get his hands on the ball after teammate Lenny Hayes thumped it into the goal square. It dribbled through for a point, to level the match.
“I feel sick now talking about it, yeah, nervous and got the shakes a little bit,’’ Milne said.
Also detailed are the ominous comments from then AFL president Andrew Demetriou, who in an interview the day before said he would welcome a draw.
“A draw would be good. To come back and do it all again next week ... a good result for the AFL,’’ he said.
The documentary even explores some of the more bizarre incidents that unfolded including how the changerooms for both teams started to flood in the second half of the match.
The game was controversially replayed the following weekend with Collingwood winning by its biggest premiership margin ever.
Malthouse and Lyon both admitted decisions over whether to attend team functions following the drawn game could have been what helped Collingwood clinch the cup the following weekend.
The Pies players were told to attend a dinner at Crown while Lyon and St Kilda president Michael Nettlefold gave the group the night off.
McGuire said Malthouse’s speech that night, when he told players to treat the draw as if it was halftime and as an opportunity to the players that night was his finest moment as coach.
“Mick’s speech to the Collingwood throng was just what we needed,’’ McGuire said.
“It was his finest hour as far as I am concerned, the way he was able to get everybody right and then the players bought in.’’
The Final Draw airs next Sunday at 10pm on Channel 7

I feel sick just reading this and reliving the memories.....
From where we were at half time, to come back and hit the front with 5 mins to go, we should never ever ever ever ever lost from there.
To think I might die and that's the closest I get to seeing us win a flag....I need a drink.....

Too painful, even now, to revisit knowing what was coming the following week. I've never watched '97 or 2009 again either and never will.

Re: A Must Watch ..Documentary on 2010 Grand Final Ch 7
I'm the same as others. I couldn't bear to watch. For the first time since 1966 I had a 30 second feeling ... "this could be it - I might finally witness a premiership". With 5 mins to go we had lost to Hawks, Crows and even v Geelong with 5 mins to go we didn't get that flag feeling. Sep 21 marks the day in 1971 when as a 15 year old kid I got my GF ticket to see Saints V Hawks. We know the result ... Hawthorn won their 2nd flag, could have been our 2nd. And now look how much joy Hawks fans have experienced. Call me a wimp - too painful. Can't watch.

Yep, ironic we both went into the 71 GF with one flag. I also was there for that game, would never have thought 45 years later we would still only have one flag and Hawthorn would have 13, hurts just typing it.Newman wrote:I'm the same as others.
