St Kilda is ramping up its interest in out-of-contract Essendon youngster Jayden Laverde.
Laverde, who was taken with pick 20 in the 2014 draft, is out of contract and yet to recommit to the Bombers.

If he leaves Essendon for money we are front runners to get him.
Essendon don't want to pay him what his management are asking for and we are prepared to.
Ball is in Essendon's court and we are ready to pounce if he is unsatisfied with terms.
We really liked him 2 years ago and for memory he went one or two picks before we took Goddard and for a fleeting moment thought we were going to get him at pick 21.
It's a genuine 50/50 at this stage and unfortunately can't give you any more than that.

They will surely be wanting a pick inside the top 20 - given his age and potential - even if they aren't willing to pay him much
Would they take next years 2nd?? - could possibly be around pick 30 (if we make finals)

Re: Jaxons come on down
We did indeed just miss out on Jayden Laverde two years ago. Bombers took him with the pick just before us. We then took Hugh and then DMac.
I had quite a bit to do with Jayden in his early teen years in another sport, and recall him as being a very determined, respectful young lad - excellent team man, who always rose to the occasion. Others can of course judge his footy ability far better than I, but if we get him he will certainly fit in and give us 100%.

Re: Jaxons come on down
As for me all I know is he is name is Jayden laverde, a gaolkicking midfielder who is silky and posses clean hand and kicking abilities.contains blistering speed and poseses good desision making and awareness .he was originally seen as a top 5 pick in his draft year and was even there in the afl phantom draft originally but slipped down due to consistancey problems. Was likened to Wayne Carey and Ablett in his aggressive and skilful playing style. Personally me likey hopefully we snag him on the 800k deal we offered himst.byron wrote:190cm, nearly 6'3" in the imperial system.

still seems a long shot... given that it is Connors.Con Gorozidis wrote:Would be a coup.
Worth the little bit of posturing from Laverde to get a 50,000 bump from the Dopers...

I still think is probably just a Connors game to up his price wity the dopers and the Saints are a tad on the naive side on occasion. Still. Stranger things happen.....

He grew up in Essendon heartland and is a life long bomber supporter, hard to see him move on but he would be a great pick up

I like this from St Kilda. Either we end up snagging a quality young player from Essendon or we force them to pay Laverde more than they wanted to and have some salary cap issues. Win/win

The trout loves him. We'll see how much when he has to negotiate with that flog, Dudoro, again.

ambition as in aim high or just pie in the sky stuff
I would be more confident if he had been negotiating with us on the quiet as opposed to a bidding war, as our post season record with EFC is not great
so cloak and dagger stuff aside - he would be a great inclusion (at current 2016 market value) & much better than an obsolete NDS refurb model

Parents want him to re-sign.
As a kid long time bombers supporter
The latest age article smells like a Connors ploy (think Hurley)
Bombers have extra room in their cap. No JOM
The way I see it is if they up his contract he'll re-sign
Bound to happen, I think its more of a 20-80 chance, With the 20 likely to come to us. Still happy to be proven wrong

Laverde would be a big bonus but still seems unlikelySaintPav wrote:Offer him $500k. See if he bites.
I suspect the club are pushing the Steele and Marchbank options hard...
Steels seems a very good chance and we know Marchbank is going somewhere... I cant see any reason why he would chose Carlton ahead of us.. it is not as though SOS is actually playing or coaching... he is a perfect fiit for us, you would recon
Personally hoping for Steele + Marchbank... would be ideal
any more would be bonus

Tim Watson and Mark Stevens on 7 reporting that Marchbank is keen on the dopers and that they are in the box seat to nab him. Well Tim would say a that, wouldn't he?
