New Collingwood coach 2018

Post: # 1636602Post happy feet »

I know this should be on the opposition forum, but I heard a rumour yesterday from a fairly reliable source that Nathan Buckley is a dead man walking with Eddie McGuire coming to terms in a secret deal with Paul Roos for $1.25M per season.

Make sure you tell all your Magpie friends.

Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Caro was dropping hints about this on footy classifieds but it wasnt clear whether it was Pies or Tigers.
Roos at Pies or Tiges in 2018 seems very strong. Would not be surprised if op is on the money here.
But what if the Pies make finals in 2017?

If that's the case, please let bucks be successful...

Would love Eddie having to ask a winning coach to step aside, again

Eddie will not be satisfied with making the finals only to lose like North Melbourne.
Buckley would have to make it at least into week 2 of the finals.

Eddie has too much ego.
He hasn't got the patience to let the players and team develop.
They must be contenders
Always.

Besides Buckley can't coach.
He did not do a proper apprenticeship.
Buckley is a dead man coaching.
Banger will probably be looking for a job come 2018 as well.
It would be nice to see him add some colour to that vile black and white.

That's cheap.

In 2001 we paid Malcolm "couldn't give a rat's toss bag" Blight $1 million which is the equivalent of around $1.6 million in today's dollars.

Eddie is being a cheapskate.

Banger could do worse than put his hand up for the now vacant Development/Sandringham job vacated by Paul Hudson after yesterday.
Whilst some might see it as a 'demotion' from his current position at Collingwood it would afford him the opportunity to actually coach his own team whilst still heavily involved at an AFL club.

Voss, Hird, Buckley. All those 1996 era 'good players', all to be sacked as coaches, it seems..

USELESS FACT: The WADA case against Essendon (in Sydney as well) is exactly 10 years to the day that Australia qualified for the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Hasn't that bogan McGuire learnt about the follies of appointing prospective Coaches whilst there's still an incumbent?

I doubt Roos is interested in coaching again, if he was why wouldn't he have stayed at Melbourne and enjoyed the fruits of his hard work?

Goes to prove you need more than being a former superstar to be a successful coach.
You need to know how to coach.

Eddie loves Wayne Swan.
He used to love Nathan Buckley.
Makes Wayne Swan midfield coach for 2017.
Replaces Buckley as senior coach in 2018.
Whole Collingwood team gets infections from Collingwood's tattoo supplement program.
No brain coach wins 2019 wooden spoon.
Eddie appoints Pendelbury coach for 2020.

What fruits?

2014
15 Brisbane Lions 22 7 15 0
16 GWS Giants 22 6 16 0
17 Melbourne Demons 22 4 18
18 St Kilda Saints 22 4 18 0

2015
11 GWS Giants 22 11 11 0
12 Collingwood Magpies 22 10 12
13 Melbourne Demons 22 7 15
14 St Kilda Saints 22 6 15 1

2016
9 St Kilda Saints 22 12 10 0
10 Port Adelaide Power 22 10 12
11 Melbourne Demons 22 10 12
12 Collingwood Magpies 22 9 13

They finished 11th this year FFS and GWS and us have gone past them. They had picks 9, 4, 2, 3 and 9 in three Drafts since he's been there, to add to a number 1 pick who came good after turning 25 and playing 100 games - which was to be expected.
And only this year when Max Gawn dominated, did they actually start winning games.

And guess which games they didn't win?

Yep, the ones that Gawn didn't dominate.

Fact is, Melbourne are ordinary. They've barely improved outside of Max Gawn's form and any off-field stability is all due to Peter Jackson and the AFL.

They still choke and lose games they should win. And they still go to water when the heat is on.

They lost to Essendon FFS!!

The Paul Roos myth is the biggest in footy.

Agree. Gets by 90% on his looks. Similar to James Brayshaw and Luke Darcy.
How the hell is Darcy a selector for rep teams?

Arghh yes. Old 'hot tub time machine' Lyon. Every weekend he sits in his hot coaching box and turns up the heater and tries to transport his side back to the 2005 winning swans grand final game plan.

Speaking of hot tub. Sam Menegola is another success story from the Lyon youth academy. Not good enough to get a game under Ross apparently  .
