AFL X

Any future?
Might be good for veterans or perhaps for kids as the next step from Auskick?
But can't see it achieving global domination.

9s is a pale imitation of the real game. If it's not full contact, then it's not really AFL is it?

I've said for a while that they should try a radical change up of the game in the NAB cup to try and do a 20-20 type thing for something different. Here are my radical ideas

- 10 min quarters
- 14 a side
- 3 forwards can't leave the 50
- Two balls which would be crazy with high scoring, not knowing where to look on the field, which ball do I chase - although may be safety issues from players going everywhere with eyes for different ball
- Ball goes out of bounds is a free to oppo
- Ball rushed thorugh goals is free to oppo
- A 25 line and goals inside that are 6 points, inside 50 is 9 and outside 50 is 12.
- Torpedo goals outside 50 are worth 18 points - the return of the torp!
- At the end of each quarter each side gets 2 kicks on goal from outside 50

Just make it different and fun and crazy. The kiddies would love it.

I think the AFL X thing is a great idea.

It gives them a perfect platform to try out all the s***, gimmicky ideas they have without touching the real game.

There's an Aussie Rules comp in France that plays 9 on 9 on a rugby field. 3 forwards, 3 mids, 3 backs. 4 x 20min quarters, no time-on. Regular scoring - 6point goals and 1point behinds. It's a lot of fun but players of quality playing it would come up with scorelines of 45-10-280 to 40-10-250.

Sounds fun, right? It gets boring. Goals are boring if they come every minute. It's like the NBA All Star game...it's the most boring game of the season because nobody plays defense.

no, but the AFL can,t support both versions when they'll be stealing players off each other. choose one and back it.
for what it's worth, i don't think afl will work at all on a smaller field unless they can somehow limit the length of a kick. which, aside from weight or dimensions, i don't see as possible, and increasing weight would bring hand and wrist injuries.

Multiball.

That's gotta be a winner.

Scorelines from last Sunday at Etihad were something like 160 to 100 in a 40 minute match. Very fast paced and high scoring matches.

Idea isn't to change the game locally. It's to infiltrate overseas markets. Similar to what carn_sainter mentioned earlier regarding the format in France. Its about finding a market outside of Australia. Use a rectangle field, which are common place everywhere, and build something people may want to play.

Gaelic football

noun: Gaelic football

a type of football played mainly in Ireland between teams of fifteen players, with a goal resembling that used in rugby but having a net attached. The object is to kick or punch the round ball into the net (scoring three points) or over the crossbar (one point).
