2016 Finals Thread
Gee whiz, it has now been five years of AFL Finals ennui for us Saints faithful.
What is the general consensus of the teams having a week off before the finals commence? I just heard Eddie Betts in an interview on 774 am radio before and he sounded rather indifferent about it.
Anyway, I've decided I want Hawthorn to win their fourth straight premiership, as the Bulldogs have a snowflake's chance in hell of winning and as far as I'm concerned the other clubs can just plain go to hell. Also, to win four straight flags is an incredible feat, which has only happened once in the history VFL/AFL footy, only that the Filth can boast about. Would be great to see it happen for the first time in eighty-odd years.

I really struggled to decipher a lot of those team names.
Anyway, I hope Adelaide after what they went through last year. I don't really rate their chances though.

Just to clarify: Swines are Sydney; Sheepshafters is Geelong; Poos&Wees are Hawthorn; HSP Giants are GWS Giants; Liquorice All Sorts is Adelaide; Wet Toast are the West Coast Eagles; Footascray are the Western Bulldogs and Norf Smellbin are the North Melbourne Kangaroos.shrodes wrote:I really struggled to decipher a lot of those team names.

Go to the top of the class for the correct, in context, use of the word ennui ( pronounced on wee). Well done, Sainternist.Sainternist wrote:Gee whiz, it has now been five years of AFL Finals ennui for us Saints faithful.

Made me laugh. Sheepshafters. Liquorice Allsorts. I voted for Liquorice Allsorts just because of the name. Really really really really really really don't want WCE, Sheepshafters, Sydney to win. Otherwise.......meh.....
Re: 2016 Finals Thread
I would like to see hawthorn win it again. My reasons are i dont know any Hawthorn supporters so i wouldnt have to listen to their bragging. I especially DONT want the Crows to win It would be shite in this state again.

I love that word. It has rubbed off on me from reading the likes of Camus and Sartre and also watching movies from all of those great French filmmakers that came out of the 50s and 60s who were big on existentialism.
Glad it was of amusement to you, Byron. Actually, I think Barks4eve may have come up with Sheepshafters for Geelong. There's another wave to old Barks!st.byron wrote:Made me laugh. Sheepshafters. Re: 2016 Finals Thread
I can't recall the last time I was this disinterested in a finals series.
There are no teams in the eight that I would like to see win the flag.
Sydney would be the highest on my least preferred.
Don't want to see Geelong or Hawthorn win...and the rest can't win it anyway.
Very uninspiring series ahead.
The AFL have their fantasy match this weekend between GWS and Sydney...they're just missing Gold Coast for a threesome.

Will only get interesting if north and the bulldogs win their first games. Highly unlikely, but would add some spice.
In the meantime, I'm sticking with Lenny and the Giants.

Would be fantastic if the Bulldogs to upset the Weagles in Perth. I don't see that one as an impossibility. North Melbourne, on the other hand, are stone motherless.freely wrote:Will only get interesting if north and the bulldogs win their first games. Highly unlikely, but would add some spice.

I had forgotten that Lenny was an assistant with the Giants. They seem relatively inoffensive for the time being. Of course with them being an AFL love child won't have me wanting them as a "second team", but at least they don't come across as an arrogant club, like the Weagles have always been. Would love it we got Lenny back as an assistant for our midfield.
Hahahaha... Ennui is definitely the operative word for your enthusiasm towards the finals, LLS!Life Long Saint wrote:I can't recall the last time I was this disinterested in a finals series.

would make it even more of a sure thing for the top four sides. at the moment west coast have momentum, and adelaide's best can challange; north and the bulldogs are dead. although i'd expect the dogs to thrash west coast by some fifty odd points.freely wrote:Will only get interesting if north and the bulldogs win their first games. Re: 2016 Finals Thread
WCE are not getting the usual soft free kicks they normally get... Probably because it's s national audience not just supporter audience and the umps have instructed to umpire what they see, not what they hear
#33 and #4
For the Eagles should be ashamed of some of their efforts in an afl final.
The Eagles don't play finals footy... Regardless of result
They play Subi footy that won't stand up under pressure or on different ground

Re: 2016 Finals Thread
It makes a difference when the WCE don't get a free ride from the umpires.
Actually I thought the match has generally been umpired well.

Re: 2016 Finals Thread
Geez caleb Daniel is a handy little player. His kicking within 40m is pinpoint
He's a draft regret of mine I must admit was really hoping we took him when he was still there at 42 or whatever it was we took Lonie with
Still think Lonie will be a player but caleb looks really good

Re: 2016 Finals Thread
Thought Norf would food like a cheap deck chair. Their run of early wins against the lower sides and teams out of form hid some huge cracks. It's a pity we couldn't beat them and take their spot. I think we would have given a better contest.
