Re: Port v Sandy elimination final
Does anyone know if the lads who were not allowed to play because they were in the Seniors last week - Holmes, McKenzie, Wright, White ,Lonie - can play next week ? It seems extraordinary that senior selection in round 23 would bar an otherwise qualified player from representing Sandy throughout the finals.

Re: Port v Sandy elimination final
was interesting listening to the radio coverage post game where they checked the stats
Port lead most of them including clearances and many others
But the one the Zebras did lead was ''' Surprise surprise- " tackles"

Sandringham had the answers when it mattered most against Port Melbourne to win an intense elimination final by 45 points at North Port Oval on Sunday.
The Zebras, who meet reigning premier Williamstown in next Saturday's semi-final at North Port Oval, appeared galvanised after a turbulent finish to the home and away season, in which they lost six of their last seven matches.
In the background was a coach, Paul Hudson, who recently said he will be leaving the club at the end of the season, along with news of an alignment extension with St Kilda, which is set to allow more Saints – and less Zebras – to develop their craft in the VFL senior team, rather than in the development league, from next season.
>>>>>>
Tom Lee's five goals on return was a major factor in the victory, as was Cameron Shenton, whose fourth goal at the start of the final term, was just as crucial.
Trent Dennis-Lane has also had a major influence, returning from a shoulder injury, with three goals.
"We thought if we could get back to some of the footy that we played in the first half of the season … we [had] the leg speed to run over these guys and I thought we executed that well," Dennis-Lane said.
Tom Curren, after receiving the news of being delisted by St Kilda during the week, racked up 14 disposals in the opening term – and finished with 31. Myke Cook (24 disposals) and Eli Templeton (22) were other solid contributors.
Port Melbourne put in another blue-collar-like performance, but are ranked the least effective team in the competition for kicking efficiency, which ultimately cost them in their time of need on Sunday.

Just don't believe everything the commentators told you
Bugs me when they can't get info straight- or keep their eyes open.
Just watching a replay and it would seem the radio got it marginally more correct than tv
Hudson coached from the boundary all day- readily available then to encourage the players as they came to an from.
and Ayres from the box first qu and then the boundary

The eligibility rules make our tax laws seem simple.

So proud of the boys and the spirit they showed.
(Not sure where that has been the last two months!).
Big chance to beat Williamstown next week.

Great result.
Lee looked good as a permanent forward and I think it helped the team a lot by having him there. In many games this year Sandy has had to play with an overly cumbersome forward set up.
Players looked very sharp.

So can the likes of Lonie, White, et al play this weekend or not? Does anyone know?
On that though, I don't think Sandy should play 3 ruckmen if Holmes is eligible to play. Makes them too slow.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:

Well I am stuffed if I can see any rule in there that prevents White, Lonie, Holmes , Wright and McKenzie - all of whom surely have played at least games for Sandy this season- from lining up this weekend. Of course the club may decide not to pick some or all, and I recall they left some eligible guys out of finals last year.

Yeah... I was trying to work out what was going on with so many St Kilda players that should be playing... not playing. A few of those guys played for Sandy nearly all season!George27 wrote:Well I am stuffed if I can see any rule in there that prevents White, Lonie, Holmes , Wright and McKenzie - all of whom surely have played at least games for Sandy this season- from lining up this weekend. Isn't this the key - they need to have played 6 VFL games?a Player who has played in an AFL Home and Away Match after 1 July in the relevant season will be ineligible to play in VFL Senior Grade or Development League Finals Series Matches unless that Player has played in a combined total of at least six (6) Senior Grade or Development League Home and Away Matches in the same season.

Yes, and Holmes , White clearly have , and I would have thought McKenzie, Lonie and Wright would have too.Bluthy wrote:Isn't this the key - they need to have played 6 VFL games?a Player who has played in an AFL Home and Away Match after 1 July in the relevant season will be ineligible to play in VFL Senior Grade or Development League Finals Series Matches unless that Player has played in a combined total of at least six (6) Senior Grade or Development League Home and Away Matches in the same season.

Re: Port v Sandy elimination final
(a) and (b) are the only ones we need to look at for VFL senior grade finals (given that the
saints are done for AFL finals).
So.
1. You MUST have played at least one AFL, VFL or Dev league game to be eligible to play for Sandy in the finals at all.
2. If you passed GO at 1., if you also played for the Sainters after July 1 (so, from the Suns debacle onwards), then to play VFL finals you MUST also have played 6 times during the season for Sandy.
I haven't done the numbers on our boys, but I should think Billy, Lonie, Brandon, Holmes etc are all eligible.
Different question as to whether they are picked. And I'm not sure how the STK/Sandy maximum number rules apply in finals.
