Boomer
I can hear the knives being sharpened.
This guy is an absolute legend. He has at least one season left.
I know our philosophy is youth. But it has to be youth plus experience.
This guy could teach our young guys so much about the game of footy.
So recruit him as a rookie for 2017 and maybe a coaching role after that.
Boomer still has heaps to offer. He is the consummate football professional in attitude, preparation and endeavour.
I know this has zero chance of happening. But it is my two bobs worth of football wisdom.
Anyway forum do your worst. Move over Stonecold. A new whipping boy just rode into town.

Re: Boomer
I just had the exact same thought.
There's a group of guys on our list that could benefit greatly from having a guy like Boomer around. Gresham is the obvious one because of the links he already has, but you look at Sinclair, Lonie, Minchington, even Billings who could learn plenty about being an elite HFF who goes through the middle from Boomer.
Yes, it is fine to have a leader like Roo to look up to, regardless of the position you play. But having someone with the same attributes/limitations to take you under their wing can take that mentor role to another level.
Like Damien said, I'm not sure there's any chance of it even being discussed, but I don't think it's that crazy to consider.

Re: Boomer
I would *cough prefer to Rookie him than Dal *cough. Umm - I think the upside for guys like Gresh would be fantastic.

Re: Boomer
What - barrack for Boomer in a Saints jumper
We are not yet playing for a flag and can do without him. I doubt that he would settle in well for a one year stint and we already have other experienced guys - Rooey, Joey, Dempster and if he is still there next year, Fisher.
Give our younger developing guys more game time.

Re: Boomer
I don't agree with the way he was treated or the timing but at the end of the day collectively how successful have North been during his career. The way i see it footbal has become such a business that there is no room for the sentimentality. Sure, he has achieved a lot as an individual but he is not what we need. I think our veterans are more than capable of helping out the kids and you also have to respect Richo as he also has a lot to offer. North Melbourne has fallen short several times and i don't see too many young stars on the horizon so that defines why they have decided to move him on.

Let's not follow the Bombers' lead; they had no choice but to grab old worn out has-beens.To the top wrote:Not required at St Kilda

Matthew Capuano was a mistake too. Shoulda learnt from that one.

One of the more selfish players I've ever seen
A good player, but why would that necessarily make him a good mentor/coach

Simon, this is the most sensible post you've ever made.
Absolutely love Daniel Merrett. Love the way he plays and his attitude is first class.
Imagine playing in defence for that shyte mob in Brisbane and copping a pasting every week - he'd be far more motivated in a proper team, and being a Ranga would prefer Melbourne and not having to use sunscreen throughout winter!
PLUS he's the ultimate cult-hero which every team needs. Would fit in perfectly
i am Melbourne Skies - sometimes Blue Skies, Grey Skies, even Partly Cloudy Skies.
